Surface Morphology of GaN: Flat versus Vicinal Surfaces [PDF]

open access: yesMRS Internet Journal of Nitride Semiconductor Research, 1999
The surface morphology of GaN films grown by molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) is investigated by scanning tunneling microscopy (STM). A comparison is made between flat and vicinal surfaces. The wurtzite structure of GaN leads to special morphological features such as step pairing and triangularly shaped islands.

Anisotropic Drop Morphologies on Corrugated Surfaces [PDF]

open access: yesLangmuir, 2008
The spreading of liquid drops on surfaces corrugated with micron-scale parallel grooves is studied both experimentally and numerically. Because of the surface patterning, the typical final drop shape is no longer spherical. The elongation direction can be either parallel or perpendicular to the direction of the grooves, depending on the initial drop ...

Silicon Alters Leaf Surface Morphology and Suppresses Insect Herbivory in a Model Grass Species

open access: yesPlants, 2020
Grasses accumulate large amounts of silicon (Si) which is deposited in trichomes, specialised silica cells and cell walls. This may increase leaf toughness and reduce cell rupture, palatability and digestion.

Late Pleistocene human paleoecology in the highland savanna ecosystem of mainland Southeast Asia

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
The late Pleistocene settlement of highland settings in mainland Southeast Asia by Homo sapiens has challenged our species’s ability to occupy mountainous landscapes that acted as physical barriers to the expansion into lower-latitude Sunda islands ...

Effect of WEDM Process Parameters on Surface Morphology of Nitinol Shape Memory Alloy

open access: yesMaterials, 2020
Nickel–titanium shape memory alloys (SMAs) have started becoming popular owing to their unique ability to memorize or regain their original shape from the plastically deformed condition by means of heating or magnetic or mechanical loading.
