Understanding mechanisms underlying solar cycle predictability with a general framework

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
Context. The large-scale magnetic field observed at the solar surface is produced by the interior dynamo process. Whether this surface field also provides the dominant seed for the subsequent dynamo cycle, however, remains controversial, with important ...

The ubiquitin ligase RNF115 is required for the clearance of damaged lysosomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Upon lysosomal rupture, an E3 ubiquitin ligase RNF115 translocates from the cytosol to the damaged lysosomal membrane. Moreover, RNF115 depletion impairs the clearance of damaged lysosomes, identifying it as a key regulator of lysosomal quality control.

An infrared bootstrap of the Schur index with surface defects

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2019
The infrared formula relates the Schur index of a 4d N $$ \mathcal{N} $$ = 2 theory to its wall-crossing invariant, a.k.a. BPS monodromy. A further extension of this formula, proposed by Córdova, Gaiotto and Shao, includes contributions by various types ...

Multiple nucleic acid cleavage modes in divergent type III CRISPR systems

open access: yes, 2016
CRISPR-Cas is an RNA-guided adaptive immune system that protects bacteria and archaea from invading nucleic acids. Type III systems (Cmr, Csm) have been shown to cleave RNA targets in vitro and some are capable of transcription-dependent DNA targeting ...

Polyelectrolyte multilayer films as backflushable nanofiltration membranes with tunable hydrophilicity and surface charge [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
A diverse set of supported polyelectrolyte multilayer (PEM) membranes with controllable surface charge, hydrophilicity, and permeability to water and salt was designed by choosing constituent polyelectrolytes and by adjusting conditions of their ...

Epigenetic blind spots – the role of DNA methylation dynamics in stem cell‐based models of embryogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.

The Enhanced Wagner–Hagras OLS–BP Hybrid Algorithm for Training IT3 NSFLS-1 for Temperature Prediction in HSM Processes

open access: yesMathematics, 2023
This paper presents (a) a novel hybrid learning method to train interval type-1 non-singleton type-3 fuzzy logic systems (IT3 NSFLS-1), (b) a novel method, named enhanced Wagner–Hagras (EWH) applied to IT3 NSFLS-1 fuzzy systems, which includes the level ...

Holomorphic curves in surfaces of general type. [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 1990
This note answers some questions on holomorphic curves and their distribution in an algebraic surface of positive index. More specifically, we exploit the existence of natural negatively curved "pseudo-Finsler" metrics on a surface S of general type whose Chern numbers satisfy c(2)1>2c2 to show that a holomorphic map of a Riemann surface to S whose ...

Rab14 regulates the transport of human papillomavirus to the trans‐Golgi network for infectious cell entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals that the small GTPase Rab14 is necessary for human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and plays an essential role in the transport of virions to the trans‐Golgi network (TGN). HPV in the early endosome (EE), which harbors GTP‐bound Rab14, is transported to the TGN through the switch of Rab14 from its GTP‐bound to GDP‐bound form.

The use of Prepared Zeolite Y from Iraqi kaolin for Fluid Catalytic Cracking of Vacuum Gas Oil

open access: yesJournal of Engineering, 2023
The faujasite type Y zeolite catalyst was prepared from locally available kaolin. For prepared faujasite type NaY zeolite X-ray, FT-IR, BET pore volume and surface area, and silica/ alumina were determined.
