Scalable Thermal Engineering via Femtosecond Laser‐Direct‐Written Phononic Nanostructures

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 36, Issue 27, 2 April 2026.
This study demonstrates that femtosecond laser‐induced periodic surface structures (fs‐LIPSS) can function as phononic metasurfaces, reducing thermal conductivity below the plain thin‐film limit. Phonon Monte Carlo analysis reveals that the periodic structures restrict phonon mean free paths.

A Multi‐Dimensional Cathodoluminescence Detector With 3D Printed Micro‐Optics on a Fiber

open access: yesAdvanced Quantum Technologies, Volume 9, Issue 4, April 2026.
A fiber‐based cathodoluminescence (CL) spectroscopy detector is realized by printing a micro‐optical lens directly onto the fiber's facet using two‐photon polymerization. This compact collection scheme enables efficient CL acquisition across complex sample geometries, offering simplified alignment, modular integration, and access to spatially resolved ...

Increased rise time of electron temperature during adiabatic plasmon focusing

open access: yesNature Communications, 2017
Knowledge of the electron-gas dynamics in nanometric hot spots is of importance for hot-carrier technologies. Here Lozan et al. present a theoretical and experimental analysis of the spatio-temporal dynamics of hot electrons in a nano-focusing surface ...

Single-cycle surface plasmon polaritons on a bare metal wire excited by relativistic electrons

open access: yesNature Communications, 2016
Here, the authors demonstrate how ultra-short bunches of relativistic electrons produce coherent transition radiation at the tip of a thin wire. The radiation then propagates as a powerful surface plasmon polariton along the wire, illustrating the ...

Direct Writing of Photonic Structures by Two-Photon Polymerization

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2013
Single-mode dielectric-loaded surface plasmon-polariton nanowaveguides with strong mode confinement at excitation wavelength of 830 nm and high-Q polymer whispering gallery mode microcavities with surface roughness less than 12 nm have been directly ...

Cascaded exciton energy transfer in a monolayer semiconductor lateral heterostructure assisted by surface plasmon polariton

open access: yesNature Communications, 2017
Exciton energy transfer in monolayer transition metal dichalcogenides is limited to short distances. Here, Shi et al. fabricate a planar metal-oxide-semiconductor structure and show that exciton energy transfer can be extended to tens of microns ...

Rabi-like splitting from large area plasmonic microcavity

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2017
Rabi-like splitting was observed from a hybrid plasmonic microcavity. The splitting comes from the coupling of cavity mode with the surface plasmon polariton mode; anti-crossing was observed alongside the modal conversional channel on the reflection ...

Surface plasmon polaritons on curved surfaces

open access: yesOptica, 2019
While the motion of a classical particle bounded to a surface depends only on the local curvature, the dynamics of a quantum particle depends also on the mean surface curvature. Its influence can be experimentally observed using surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs), which are naturally surface-bounded waves. Owing to the similarity between the Schrodinger
