Confinement of Surface Plasmon Polaritons by Heterostructures of Plasmonic Crystals

Nano Letters, 2015
Square lattice plasmonic crystals (SQ-PlCs) composed of silver pillars generate large bandgaps for surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs). SPP confinement is demonstrated using one- and two-dimensional heterostructures of SQ-PlCs comprised of cylindrical pillars with different diameters in a common square lattice.

Gap surface plasmon polaritons enhanced by a plasmonic lens

Optics Letters, 2011
We numerically investigate the optical field enhancement based on gap surface plasmon polaritons (GSPPs) that are enhanced by propagating surface waves launched by a circular slit at a metal-dielectric interface. The optical field enhancement originates not only from multiple scattering and coupling of GSPPs in the spacer region between two metal ...

Photonic surfaces for surface-plasmon polaritons

Journal of the Optical Society of America A, 1997
We examine the propagation of surface-plasmon polaritons on textured surfaces. Specifically, we look at how a grating surface produces a band gap in the propagation of this mode and how the band gap depends on the propagation direction of the mode. This naturally leads to a discussion of a surface profile suitable for blocking surface mode propagation ...

Introduction to Surface Plasmon-Polariton Waveguides

2010
This chapter summarizes basic properties of the main Surface plasmon polariton (SPP) modes. SPPs are electromagnetic (EM) excitations that, being coupled to surface collective oscillations of free electrons in a metal, are bound to and propagate along metal-dielectric interfaces.

Surface plasmon polariton guiding by chains of nanoparticles

Laser Physics Letters, 2006
We investigate numerically the possibility for surface plasmon polariton (SPP) guiding by chains of strongly interacting nanoparticles located near a metal surface. The model employed is based on the Green's function formalism and the dipole approximation for field scattering by nanoparticles.

Nonlinear Surface Plasmon Polaritons

Advanced Photonics Congress, 2012
We present analytical analyses of the nonlinear interaction of SPP fields at a silver-vacuum interface, in the presence of a third order optical susceptibility in the metal. Both sum- and difference-frequency generation interactions are addressed.

Surface plasmon-polaritons and their uses

Optical and Quantum Electronics, 1991
Surface plasmon-polaritons have been experimentally and theoretically studied for many years but in recent years interest has grown substantially due to their possible use in novel device applications. The aim of this review is to introduce the concept of surface plasmon-polaritons so that the reader will be able to appreciate the physics they can ...

Surface Plasmon Polariton Waveguides

2017
The optical properties of SPPs at a metal–dielectric interface inspire a new group of waveguides made of insulating and conducting materials. These novel waveguides are often called plasmonic waveguides or SPP waveguides. Conventional dielectric waveguides guide light by using the refractive index difference between cladding and core media.
