Sol-Gel Thin Films for Plasmonic Gas Sensors

open access: yesSensors, 2015
Plasmonic gas sensors are optical sensors that use localized surface plasmons or extended surface plasmons as transducing platform. Surface plasmons are very sensitive to dielectric variations of the environment or to electron exchange, and these effects

Quantum Dot-Induced Blue Shift of Surface Plasmon Spectroscopy

open access: yesNanomaterials, 2022
We experimentally demonstrate the spectral blue shift of surface plasmon resonance through the resonant coupling between quantum dots (QDs) and surface plasmons, surprisingly in contrast to the conventionally observed red shift of plasmon spectroscopy ...

Electrical Excitation of Surface Plasmons [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Optics 2012/Laser Science XXVIII, 2011
We exploit a plasmon mediated two-step momentum downconversion scheme to convert low-energy tunneling electrons into propagating photons. Surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) propagating along an extended gold nanowire are excited on one end by low-energy electron tunneling and are then converted to free-propagating photons at the other end.

Designing Plasmonic Gratings with Transformation Optics

open access: yesPhysical Review X, 2015
Plasmonic gratings that support both localized and propagating plasmons have wide applications in solar cells and optical biosensing. In this paper, we report on a most unusual grating designed to capture light efficiently into surface plasmons and ...

Bouncing surface plasmons

open access: yesOptics Express, 2007
Employing an interferometric cavity ring-down technique we study the launching, propagation and reflection of surface plasmons on a smooth gold-air interface that is intersected by two parallel, sub-wavelength wide slits. Inside the low-finesse optical cavity defined by these slits the surface plasmon is observed to make multiple bounces.

Tunable grating-assisted surface plasmon resonance by use of nano-polymer dispersed liquid crystal electro-optical material [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
This paper reports on the experimental observation of the displacement of a surface plasmon resonance (SPR) excited by a metallic diffraction grating. This effect is achieved by the use of an electro-optical material composed of nano-sized droplets of ...

A phased antenna array for surface plasmons. [PDF]

open access: yesSci Rep, 2016
Surface plasmon polaritons are electromagnetic waves that propagate tightly bound to metal surfaces. The concentration of the electromagnetic field at the surface as well as the short wavelength of surface plasmons enable sensitive detection methods and ...

Surface Plasmon Polaritons on Metallic Surfaces

open access: yesOptics and Photonics News, 2007
A unified theoretical study of surface plasmon polaritons on flat metallic surfaces and interfaces is undertaken to clarify the nature of these electromagnetic waves, conditions under which they are launched, and the restrictions imposed by Maxwell's equations that ultimately determine the strength of the excited plasmons. Finite Difference Time Domain

Surface Plasmons in Silicon Nanowires

open access: yesAdvanced Photonics Research, 2021
Plasmon resonances (PRs) in metallic nanostructures have been extensively studied, whereas reports on PR in silicon nanowires (Si NWs) are very few, partial, and they refer to structures larger than 100 nm.
