Generation and optimisation of colour-shaded relief maps using neural networks

open access: yesGeocarto International
Shaded relief is a primary tool used to effectively portray three-dimensional terrain on a two-dimensional plane surface. Colour-shaded relief maps use colour variations to effectively represent elevation changes and even capture the natural hues of ...

Relief map of the Earth's surface

open access: yesEos, Transactions American Geophysical Union, 1986
The National Geophysical Data Center (NGDC) has published a set of three new shaded and color relief maps of the world. These maps were generated from digital elevation and bathymetric data by using computer‐based imaging and graphics technology. The maps, a logical byproduct of the advent of worldwide coverage of digital gridded data bases, represent ...

Biomass Native Structure Into Functional Carbon‐Based Catalysts for Fenton‐Like Reactions

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study indicates that eight biomasses with 2D flaky and 1D acicular structures influence surface O types, morphology, defects, N doping, sp2 C, and Co nanoparticles loading in three series of carbon, N‐doped carbon, and cobalt/graphitic carbon. This work identifies how these structural factors impact catalytic pathways, enhancing selective electron

Intrinsic Photoactive Star ZnPc–Poly(glutamate) Nanoplatforms for Multimodal Glioblastoma Therapy and Brain‐Targeted Delivery

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An intrinsic photoactive star‐shaped zinc phtalocyanine‐poly(L‐glutamic acid) (ZnPc‐PGA) nanoplatform for multimodal glioblastoma (GBM) therapy and brain‐targeted elivery. A ZnPc‐PGA‐based multifunctional theranostic nanocarrier platform enables image‐guided, multimodal GBM therapy. ZnPc‐PGA nanocarriers support the integration of fluorescence imaging,

Mechanisms of the Early Fatigue Damage in Metallic Materials

open access: yesCommunications, 2006
The early stages of the fatigue damage in f.c.c. and b.c.c. metals are studied using high resolution techniques. The localization of the cyclic plastic strain results in formation persistent slip bands (PSBs) with specific dislocation structure ...

Surface-relief polarization gratings for visible light

open access: yesOptics Express, 2010
Polarization gratings are space-variant subwavelength-structured photonic devices that control electromagnetic wave propagation by local modulation of the state of polarization of light. Using electron beam lithography, we have fabricated such devices in the form of dielectric and metallic surface-relief profiles for operation in the visible wavelength

Versatile Pneumatic Twisted Coiled Actuators Enabled by Fiber‐Polymer Composite Fabrication

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work reports composite Pneumatic Twisted Coiled Actuators with embedded Kevlar fibers that convert pneumatic or hydraulic pressure into powerful linear motion. A novel precise manufacturing technique is used to systematically explore how design variables influence actuator mechanics and dynamics.

Fusogenic RNA Nanomodules for Fusion‐Mediated and Multiplexed siRNA Delivery

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A fusogenic lipid‐layered RNA nanomodules (L‐CRAMs) enable high‐capacity and long‐lasting siRNA delivery through membrane fusion. These nanomodules carry exceptionally large siRNA payloads, avoid conventional endosomal uptake, and release multiple functional siRNAs through Dicer‐mediated processing.

Relief generation from 3D scenes guided by geometric texture richness

open access: yesComputational Visual Media, 2018
Typically, relief generation from an input 3D scene is limited to either bas-relief or high-relief modeling. This paper presents a novel unified scheme for synthesizing reliefs guided by the geometric texture richness of 3D scenes; it can generate both ...
