Diffraction characteristics of surface-relief gratings

Applied Optics, 1993
We present a theoretical and experimental study on the diffraction characteristics of gratings, with particular attention focused on the effects of polarization. The goal of our study is to develop multifunctional devices for use in a pickup head for optical storage systems.

On surface relief gratings in azopolymers

Molecular Machines, 2018
Over the past two decades, surface relief gratings have attracted much interest owing to their potential applications in optical data storage and optical communication and holography. Azobenzene-containing polymer films show an interesting behavior under irradiation with light interference patterns. The inhomogeneous irradiation; e.g.

Grating coupler dispersion compensation with a surface-relief reflection grating

Applied Optics, 1994
Experimental results are presented that show that diffraction off a surface-relief reflection grating can be used to extend the FWHM input coupling efficiency versus the coupled-light wavelength of a grating coupler from 0.7 to 17 nm. Use of a surface-relief reflection grating allows high diffraction efficiency over a wide wavelength range.
