Development of a sustainable water treatment process using biochar as substrate for filtration and coliform removal

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
Preparation, modification, and characterization of biochar from woodchips and its application in stream water filtration, evaluated through physicochemical and microbiological analyses. Abstract Global microbial water contamination affects 1.8 billion people, necessitating efficient and sustainable treatment methods.

To Till or Not to Till? Social Profitability of No-Till Technology

open access: yes
We study from economic and environmental angles under what conditions no-till technology is socially optimal. We demonstrate theoretically that if yield under no-till is equal to or greater than under conventional technology, its adoption is socially ...

Double Sided Traction Force Microscopy: A Method to Confine Cells for Physiologically Relevant Force Measurements

open access: yesCytoskeleton, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In this paper we describe a technique to make a confined environment of variable stiffness that is suitable for high‐resolution live‐cell imaging. This versatile and adaptable technique enables cell confinement between soft elastic surfaces made from polyacrylamide gels.

EventFlow: Real‐time neuromorphic event‐driven classification of two‐phase boiling flow regimes

open access: yesDroplet, EarlyView.
We present a real‐time flow regime classification framework that integrates neuromorphic event‐driven sensing with deep recurrent neural networks. Unlike traditional frame‐based approaches, our system captures sparse event streams from an event‐based camera, representing only the dynamic brightness changes at the individual pixel level.

Runoff component analysis of nested experimental catchments in the headwater region of the Taihu Lake Basin

open access: yesShui kexue jinzhan
Runoff component composition reflects the functioning and characteristics of catchment hydrological systems and insufficient understanding of runoff generation processes and their components has constrained the development of runoff generation theories ...

Stormwater runoff calculator for evaluation of low impact development practices at ground-mounted solar photovoltaic farms

open access: yesDiscover Water
Estimating runoff at ground-mounted solar photovoltaic (PV) installations is challenging because of the disconnected nature of impervious solar panels and the pervious ground surface underneath and between panel rows.

Soil and Landscape Factors Affecting Phosphorus Loss from the Fitzgerald River Catchment in South West of Western Australia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Following over 100 years of agriculture and continuous phosphorus (P) fertilizer application in the south west of Western Australia, there is a growing risk of P transport from cropping and pasture land to streams.
