Surface Texture

2023
<div class="section abstract"> <div class="htmlview paragraph">This SAE Standard is concerned with the geometrical irregularities of surfaces of solid materials. It established definite classifications for various degrees of roughness and waviness and for several varieties of lay.

Pebble surface textures

Geological Magazine, 1968
SUMMARYAn electron microscope examination of beach and glacial pebbles suggests that these two environments do not impress distinctively different textures on pebble surfaces. A detailed study of surface textures of beach pebbles indicates that size reduction is predominantly an abrasional rather than solutional process.

SURFACE TEXTURE CONTROL

2017
<div class="section abstract"> <div class="htmlview paragraph">SAE J448, Surface Texture, has been set up for precision reference specimens using a controlled surface profile to obtain reproducible roughness values. These specimens are for instrument calibration.

Surface Texturing

2017
Abstract This article provides an overview of surface-texturing techniques. It describes the texturing parameters, namely, shape, depth, and width of the textured pattern, its aspect ratio (depth over width), texture area density, and orientation.

Texture mapping parametric molecular surfaces

Journal of Molecular Graphics, 1995
Texture mapping is an increasingly popular technique in molecular modeling. It is particularly effective in representing high-resolution surface detail using a low-resolution polygonal model. We describe how texture mapping can be used with parametric molecular surfaces represented as expansions of spherical harmonic functions.

Variation in surface texture measurements

Journal of Biomedical Materials Research Part B: Applied Biomaterials, 2004
AbstractSurface texture influences cellular response to implants, implant wear, and fixation, yet measurement and reporting of surface texture can be confusing and ambiguous. Seven specimens of widely different surface textures were submitted to three internationally renowned laboratories for surface texture characterization.

The domain of surface texture

SSRN Electronic Journal, 2015
Abstract The paper deals with the typology of surface texture expressions, such as slippery road, smooth wooden board, rough hands, coarse or rough fabric. We discuss both their literal uses and metaphors formed with them, such as slippery ...

Texturing Curved Surfaces

2011
This chapter discusses the extension of the characteristic number of virtual haptic textures to the case of non flat surfaces. This extension shows that there is an effect of surface curvature on the passivity of haptics textures, but that there are other effects and artifacts that cannot be captured by the characteristic number.

Textured Surface Hydrodynamic Lubrication: Discussion

Tribology Letters, 2012
We discuss on a recently presented theory of textured surface hydrodynamic lubrication (Scaraggi, Phys Rev E, 2012). The model, based on the Bruggeman effective medium approach, allows to analytically evaluate the effects of a generic texture shape, distribution, and area density on the macroscopic hydrodynamic characteristics of the contact, such as ...
