Eos, Transactions American Geophysical Union, 1929
The paper (published in full in Bull. Seis. Soc Amer., v. 19, 63–76, 1929) deals with methods of interpreting instrumental records of seismic surface‐waves to determine the velocities of the several wave‐groups. Current methods of identifying surface‐waves depend upon characteristics of period and amplitude only and generally no attempt is made to ...

Downwash-velocity potential method for oscillating surfaces.
AIAA Journal, 1973The application of the downwash-velocity potential method to the case of oscillating surfaces is developed, and calculated forces are given on rectangular airfoils of aspect ratio two rotating about midchord in subsonic flows. These are compared with other results published in the literature for reduced frequencies up to nine-tenths, and for Mach ...

Unusually Low Surface-Recombination Velocity on Silicon and Germanium Surfaces
Physical Review Letters, 1986We have found that a standard, widespread, chemical-preparation method for silicon, oxidation followed by an HF etch, results in a surface which from an electronic point of view is remarkably inactive. With preparation in this manner, the surface-recombination velocity on Si111g is only 0.25 cm/sec, which is the lowest value ever reported for any ...

SEISMIC VELOCITIES FROM SURFACE MEASUREMENTS
GEOPHYSICS, 1955The purpose of this paper is to discuss field and interpretive techniques which permit, in favorable cases, the quite accurate determination of seismic interval velocities prior to drilling. A simple but accurate formula is developed for the quick calculation of interval velocities from “average velocities” determined by the known [Formula: see text ...

Free-surface velocity measurements using an optically recording velocity interferometer
SPIE Proceedings, 2007An optically recording velocity interferometer system (ORVIS) was developed for the free-surface velocity measurements in the equation of state experiments. The time history of free-surface velocity and the particle velocity in laser deduced shockwaves experiments can be recorded by the electronic streak camera in ORVIS.

Shear velocity structure of central Eurasia from inversion of surface wave velocities
Physics of the Earth and Planetary Interiors, 2001We present a shear velocity model of the crust and upper mantle beneath central Eurasia by simultaneous inversion of broadband group and phase velocity maps of fundamental-mode Love and Rayleigh waves. The model is parameterized in terms of velocity depth profiles on a discrete 2 2 grid.

Simultaneous free-surface deformation and near-surface velocity measurements
Experiments in Fluids, 2001A newly developed non-intrusive approach has been devised for studying near-surface flows where it is important to be able to construct correlations between small-sloped free-surface deformations and near-surface velocities. This method combines digital particle image velocimetry (DPIV) and the reflective mode of the free-surface gradient detector ...

Velocity-dependent surface corrugation in gas–surface scattering
Physics of FluidsGas–surface scattering transitions from the thermal to the structure scattering regime as incident energy increases, with the dominant mechanism shifting from surface thermal motion to surface corrugation. Conventional models such as the Maxwell and Cercignani–Lampis–Lord (CLL) models incorporate thermal motion but neglect explicit corrugation effects,

Surface wave tomography to retrieve near surface velocity models
SEG Technical Program Expanded Abstracts 2014, 2014Surface-wave tomography is usually applied at regional or planetary scale but represent an interesting approach also for near surface applications. We present a surface wave dispersion tomography that does not require the construction of phase or group velocity maps and which inverts path-specific dispersion data directly for 3-D Swave velocity ...

Summary: [For part I see the author, ibid. 33, 299-318 (1984; Zbl 0549.70003).] The best possible zero-configurational velocity surfaces for the general N-body problem in three space are derived. The basic construction of these surfaces is described in detail for the three body problem and for other flat configurations.
