Influence of the Low-Energy Inert-Gas Ion Bombardment on the Structure and Properties of Metallic Thin Films

open access: yesУспехи физики металлов
The goal of the review is to analyse the main published results of the most systematic studies of changes in the structural–phase state, the physical and chemical properties of the metallic single- and multilayer thin films’ systems after bombardment by ...

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

On‐Surface Reactions

open access: yesChemPhysChem, 2015
AbstractOn‐surface synthesis constitutes a rapidly growing field of research due to its promising application for creating stable molecular structures on surfaces. While self‐assembled structures rely on reversible interactions, on‐surface synthesis provides the potential for creating long‐term stable structures with well‐controlled properties, for ...

Epigenetic blind spots – the role of DNA methylation dynamics in stem cell‐based models of embryogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.

Curves in the Minkowski plane and Lorentzian surfaces [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We investigate in this thesis the generic properties of curves in the Minkowski plane R2 1 and of smooth Lorentzian surfaces. The generic properties of curves in R2 1 are obtained by studying the contacts of curves in R2 1 with lines and pseudo-circles ...

Effect of Quenching Medium on Sliding Tribology of Self-Lubricating Al-Cu Metal Matrix Composites

open access: yesTribology Online, 2020
The cooling rate during fabrication affects the microstructural features and interface strength in metal matrix composites (MMCs). Thus, the present investigation is focused on characterizing the effect of quenching medium on wear and friction response ...

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Drawing On Surfaces

open access: yes, 2022
Vector graphics in 2D is consolidated since decades, as is supported in many design applications, such as Adobe Illustrator, and languages, like Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG). In this thesis, we address the problem of designing algorithms that support the generation of vector graphics on a discrete surface.

Envelope surfaces

open access: yesProceedings of the twenty-second annual symposium on Computational geometry, 2006
We construct a class of envelope surfaces in Rd, more precisely envelopes of balls. An envelope surface is a closed C1 (tangent continuous) manifold wrapping tightly around the union of a set of balls. Such a manifold is useful in modeling since the union of a finite set of balls can approximate any closed smooth manifold arbitrarily close.
