β-Carboline Silver Compound Binding Studies with Human Serum Albumin: A Comprehensive Multispectroscopic Analysis and Molecular Modeling Study

open access: yesBioinorganic Chemistry and Applications, 2018
β-Carbolines (βCs) belong to the naturally occurring alkaloid family, derived from 9H-pyrido[3,4-b]indole, also known as norharmane (Hnor). Knowing the importance of the βCs alkaloid family in biological processes, a comprehensive binding study is ...

Monitoring the Corrosion Rate of Carbon Steel under a Single Droplet of NaCl

open access: yesInternational Journal of Electrochemical Science, 2014
A new design for an experimental set-up is proposed for monitoring the contact angle, droplet height, base diameter, corrosion rate and volume loss under a single droplet of NaCl placed gently on carbon steel surface.

Removing Oxide Layers and Retaining Oxide‐Free Steel Surfaces by Polishing in Oxygen‐Free Atmosphere

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
In this study, the efficacy of wet mechanical polishing under an oxygen‐free atmosphere for deoxidation and the retention of an oxide‐free steel surface are elucidated using X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The methodology proved successful; however, the results were highly dependent on the preparation of the solvents used to clean the samples after ...

Surfactant films in lyotropic lamellar (and related) phases: Fluctuations and interactions

open access: yes, 2017
The analogy between soap films thinning under border capillary suction and lamellar stacks of surfactant bilayers dehydrated by osmotic stress is explored, in particular in the highly dehydrated limit where the soap film becomes a Newton black film.

Powder Optimization Strategies for Binder Jetting Printing of BaTiO3 and Ba0,6Sr0,4TiO3 Ceramics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Powder optimization is investigated to enable binder jetting of BaTiO3 and Ba0.6Sr0.4TiO3 ferroelectric ceramics. The antagonistic relationship between flowability and binder compatibility is addressed through binder impregnation of granulated powders and fumed silica addition to fine powders.

A 3D boundary integral method for the electrohydrodynamics of surfactant-covered drops

open access: yes, 2019
We present a highly accurate numerical method based on a boundary integral formulation and the leaky dielectric model to study the dynamics of surfactant-covered drops in the presence of an applied electric field.

Population of Nonmetallic Inclusions in Liquid High‐Silicon Electrical Steel in Contact With MgO–C Refractories Based on Recyclates and Environmentally Friendly Binders

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The formation of nonmetallic inclusions (NMIs) was investigated in this study, carrying out immersion tests for 30 min at a temperature of 1600°C with liquid high‐silicon electrical steel (Si ≈ 3 mass‐%) and different MgO–C refractories. Conventional MgO–C refractories were considered, as well as MgO–C refractories containing MgO–C recyclate and ...

Lipid-Based Gels for Delivery of 3-O-Ethyl L-Ascorbic acid in Topical Applications

open access: yesPharmaceutics
This study explores the incorporation of 10% 3-O-ethyl L-ascorbic acid (ETVC), a derivative of vitamin C, into two lipid gel systems: a hydrogel (HG) consisting exclusively of lipids and water and a bigel (BG) combining the hydrogel with an oleogel made ...
