Roles of surfactant proteins, SP-A and SP-D, in pregnancy and parturition [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
This thesis was submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy and awarded by Brunel University.Surfactant proteins SP-A and SP-D are important key molecules responsible for pulmonary homeostasis and innate immunity against infectious pathogens.

Recycling of NiTi Shape Memory Alloys: Fundamental and Technological Aspects of a Vacuum Induction Melting Processing Route

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The present study investigates recycling of NiTi shape memory alloys via vacuum induction melting. An ingot was synthesized from elemental Ni and Ti and subjected to three subsequent remelting cycles. Remelting increases process durations and impurity levels and adversely affects microstructures and functional properties.

Association of Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms in Surfactant Protein A and D with Otitis Media.

open access: yes, 2007
Otitis Media is one of the most common childhood diseases. Recurrent acute otitis media RAOM is characterized by repeated episodes of inflammation of the middle ear in conjunction with middle ear fluid, and often with an inflamed or bulging eardrum ...

Surfactant-Enriched ZnO Surface via Sol–Gel Process for the Efficient Inverted Polymer Solar Cell

open access: yes, 2018
In this study, we demonstrate that the top surface is enriched by surfactants, tetraoctylammonium bromide, and cetylpyridinium bromide (CPB), in the sol–gel ZnO, being evidenced by the Br depth profile of electron spectroscopy for chemical analysis data.

Current Status and Challenges in Data Collection for Aerospace Coatings Deposited by Plasma Spraying

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An innovative approach has been integrated into the GRENAT project to optimize plasma spraying and coating performance. Raw materials are accelerated and melted in the plasma generated by torches, creating coatings. Monitoring sensors collect process data which are combined with ex situ characterization data.

APPLICATION OF RESPONSE SURFACE METHODOLOGY FOR OPTIMIZATION THE BIODEGRADATION PROCESS OF PETROLEUM-CONTAMINATED BEACH SAND USING BIO-OIL SPILL DISPERSANT (OSD) AND Bacillus subtilis CYA27

open access: yesJurnal Agrotek Tropika
Oil pollution in coastal ecosystems from recurrent oil spills poses a critical environmental challenge, particularly in regions such as the Malacca Strait and the northern coast of West Java. Crude oil is rich in persistent organic pollutants (POPs) that

Surfactant-enhanced spreading: experimental achievements and possible mechanisms

open access: yes, 2015
Surfactants are broadly used to improve wetting properties of aqueous formulations. The improvement is achieved by essential reduction of liquid/air and solid/liquid interfacial tensions resulting in the decrease of contact angle.

Direct Metal Deposition of Graphene–Ti28Nb35.4Zr Matrix Composites With Enhanced Mechanical, Corrosion, and Biocompatibility Properties for Bone Implants

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Graphene nanoplatelet (0.1 wt.%) reinforcement significantly enhances the performance of β Ti‐28Nb‐35.4Zr alloy. Grain refinement, reduced water contact angle, and improved surface characteristics promote osteoblast adhesion and complete surface coverage after 7 days.

Surfactant-Triggered Fluorescence Turn “on/off” Behavior of a Polythiophene-graft-Polyampholyte

open access: yes, 2016
Polythiophene-graft-polyampholyte (PTP) is synthesized using N,N-dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate and tert-butyl methacrylate monomers by grafting from polythiophene backbone, followed by hydrolysis.
