Moth‐Wing‐Inspired Multifunctional Metamaterials

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This study develops a moth‐wing‐inspired heterogeneous metamaterial that achieves synergistic broadband sound absorption, mechanical energy dissipation, and thermal insulation within a lightweight architected framework. Combining bioinspired gradient design, genetic‐algorithm optimization, and additive manufacturing, the bionic heterogeneous acoustic ...

Projections of extreme storm surge levels along Europe

open access: yesClimate Dynamics, 2016
Storm surges are an important coastal hazard component and it is unknown how they will evolve along Europe’s coastline in view of climate change. In the present contribution, the hydrodynamic model Delft3D-Flow was forced by surface wind and atmospheric ...

Polarize the Solvent to Regulate the Intermediate Phase and Dynamic Crystallization of Perovskite Films

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A solvent engineering strategy using polar polymers is introduced to regulate perovskite crystallization dynamics in solar cells. Strongly polarized fluorinated groups stabilize the intermediate phase and control solvent exfoliation, leading to high‐quality films with suppressed defects.

Rate-and-state friction explains glacier surge propagation

open access: yesNature Communications, 2019
The incomplete understanding of glacier dynamics is a major source of uncertainty in assessments of sea-level rise from land-based ice. Through increased ice discharge into the oceans, accelerating glacier flow has the potential to considerably enhance ...
