Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

The effect of oral clonidine premedication on blood loss in primary total hip arthroplasty: A randomized placebo-controlled trial [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of Trauma Research
Background: Substantial blood loss is a major concern in primary total hip arthroplasty and thus various blood conservation techniques are used to reduce blood loss in this surgery.

Comparative evaluation of the informative value of methods for determining the volume of intraoperative blood loss in the surgical treatment of burn victims

open access: yesВестник хирургии имени И.И. Грекова, 2021
The OBJECTIVE was to evaluate the informative value of various methods for determining the volume of blood loss during early surgical excision with simultaneous skin grafting with split grafts in patients with full thickness burns.MATERIAL AND METHODS ...

Three phosphatase families form a community: The phosphohydrolases that act upon inositol pyrophosphates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol pyrophosphates are energy‐rich signaling molecules that perform critical functions in cells. Three different families of phosphatases hydrolyze the β phosphate of the inositol pyrophosphate molecules: two have narrow specificities and one is promiscuous.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

EDNRB‐dependent endothelin signaling reduces proliferation and promotes proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition in gliomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Glioma cells mainly express the endothelin receptor EDNRB, while EDNRA is restricted to a perivascular tumor subpopulation. Endothelin signaling reduces glioma cell proliferation while promoting migration and a proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition associated with poor prognosis. This pathway activates Ca2+, K+, ERK, and STAT3 signalings and is regulated

Comparative Study of Two Different Intravenous Doses of Tranexamic Acid with Placebo on Surgical Field Quality in Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery-A Randomised Clinical Trial [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical and Diagnostic Research, 2019
Introduction: Intraoperative haemorrhage, which disrupts surgical patency, is a major obstacle for surgeons, especially in endoscopic sinus surgeries. Tranexamic acid is synthetic antifibrinolytic agent that binds competitively at lysine binding site on ...

Thromboelastographic assessment of the efficacy of rFVIIa in vitro and in vivo [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Haemorrhage is a leading cause of death in both the military and civilian environs and blood loss from sites which are not easily accessible or do not lend themselves to direct physical compression to reduce blood loss contribute hugely to the ...
