Flexible Instruments for Endovascular Interventions: Improved Magnetic Steering, Actuation, and Image-Guided Surgical Instruments

open access: yesIEEE robotics & automation magazine, 2018
Endovascular surgery has gained broad acceptance in the last few years. The current practice of endovascular procedures is limited by factors including patient-specific operation requirements, high-risk surgery procedures, and time-consuming operations ...

Glycosylated LGALS3BP is highly secreted by bladder cancer cells and represents a novel urinary disease biomarker

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Urinary LGALS3BP is elevated in bladder cancer patients compared to healthy controls as detected by the 1959 antibody–based ELISA. The antibody shows enhanced reactivity to the high‐mannose glycosylated variant secreted by cancer cells treated with kifunensine (KIF).

CDK11 inhibition induces cytoplasmic p21WAF1 splice variant by p53 stabilisation and SF3B1 inactivation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
CDK11 inhibition stabilises the tumour suppressor p53 and triggers the production of an alternative p21WAF1 splice variant p21L, through the inactivation of the spliceosomal protein SF3B1. Unlike the canonical p21WAF1 protein, p21L is localised in the cytoplasm and has reduced cell cycle‐blocking activity.

A Novel Patient-Specific Human Cardiovascular System Phantom (HCSP) for Reconstructions of Pulsatile Blood Hemodynamic Inside Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2018
Background and objectives: Post-operative complications of endovascular aneurysm repair, such as endoleaks, migration, or angular bands in a stent-graft or narrowing and occlusion of a stent-graft lumen are potentially life-threatening and difficult to ...

Improving PARP inhibitor efficacy in bladder cancer without genetic BRCAness by combination with PLX51107

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Clinical trials on PARP inhibitors in urothelial carcinoma (UC) showed limited efficacy and a lack of predictive biomarkers. We propose SLFN5, SLFN11, and OAS1 as UC‐specific response predictors. We suggest Talazoparib as the better PARP inhibitor for UC than Olaparib.

Cytoplasmic p21 promotes stemness of colon cancer cells via activation of the NFκB pathway

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytoplasmic p21 promotes colorectal cancer stem cell (CSC) features by destabilizing the NFκB–IκB complex, activating NFκB signaling, and upregulating BCL‐xL and COX2. In contrast to nuclear p21, cytoplasmic p21 enhances spheroid formation and stemness transcription factor CD133.

Thoracoscopic instruments do not interfere in the outcome of uncomplicated, experimental, video-assisted pulmonary lobectomy

open access: yesRevista do Colégio Brasileiro de Cirurgiões
Objective: Since its first report, video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) lung lobectomy was carried out with the use of conventional surgical instruments, used in laparoscopy and open thoracotomy.
