Excision margins in breast conserving surgery [PDF]
The ideal excision margin in breast conserving surgery is still a matter of debate. The aim is to see if there is any correlation between increasing excision margin distance and local recurrence rate.

Autofluorescence lifetime augmented reality as a means for real-time robotic surgery guidance in human patients. [PDF]
Due to loss of tactile feedback the assessment of tumor margins during robotic surgery is based only on visual inspection, which is neither significantly sensitive nor specific.

Surgical margins for soft tissue sarcoma [PDF]
The Enneking classification of surgical margins is the only one which shows a reasonable correlation between the type of margin and the risk of local recurrence. However, it can be improved by a complementary definition of compartments and a better investigation of local tumor growth.

Correlation of the differential expression of PIK3R1 and its spliced variant, p55α, in pan‐cancer
PIK3R1 undergoes alternative splicing to generate the isoforms, p85α and p55α. By combining large patient datasets with laboratory experiments, we show that PIK3R1 spliced variants shape cancer behavior. While tumors lose the protective p85α isoform, p55α is overexpressed, changes linked to poorer survival and more pronounced in African American ...

Combined cross-sectional and tangential margin evaluation of different tumor types in dogs and cats
IntroductionHistological evaluation of tumors involves tumor diagnosis and assessment of surgical margins to determine whether they are free (clean) or infiltrated (dirty) by neoplastic cells.

Fast label-free multilayered histology-like imaging of human breast cancer by photoacoustic microscopy [PDF]
The goal of breast-conserving surgery is to completely remove all of the cancer. Currently, no intraoperative tools can microscopically analyze the entire lumpectomy specimen, which results in 20 to 60% of patients undergoing second surgeries to achieve ...

RIPK4 function interferes with melanoma cell adhesion and metastasis
RIPK4 promotes melanoma growth and spread. RIPK4 levels increase as skin lesions progress to melanoma. CRISPR/Cas9‐mediated deletion of RIPK4 causes melanoma cells to form less compact spheroids, reduces their migratory and invasive abilities and limits tumour growth and dissemination in mouse models.

Background: Resection of additional tissue circumferentially around the cavity left by lumpectomy (cavity shave) was suggested to reduce rates of positive margins and re-excision. Methods: A single center retrospective study which analyzed margins status,

The anatomy of interatrial communications - what does the interventionist need to know? [PDF]
Increasingly, the interventional cardiologist is seeking to close interatrial communications by inserting devices by means of catheterisation. So as to optimise these procedures, it is adavantageous to have a firm grasp of the anatomy of the normal ...
