Surgical treatment of meningiomas

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioscience, 2009
Meningiomas, though benign histologically, are relatively common tumors that may behave in an aggressive, clinical fashion. Traditionally, treatment for these lesions has been primarily through surgical excision. This may be curative, but it has become clear that the degree of surgical resection achieved is a primary determinant of the rate of tumor ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Hepatocellular Carcinoma. Part 3: Surgical and Medical Treatment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) treatment is variable and depends on the size, location, and presence of extra hepatic metastasis and vascular invasion. HCC treatment options have advanced significantly over the past few decades and include surgical and ...

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Inverse 'D' incision technique in treatment of pilonidal sinus disease; excision with minimal tissue loss, closure without tension and lateral location of the suture line

open access: yes, 2019
WOS: 000496522400006PubMed: 31742211Purpose: Surgical excision is the preferred treatment modality for sacrococcygeal pilonidal sinus (PS). Notably, the desirable features of an ideal surgical intervention are excision with minimal tissue loss, closure ...

Surgical Treatment and Outcomes for Basilar Apex Aneurysms

open access: yes, 2020
Objectives:Basilar apex aneurysms constitute 5-10% of all intracranial aneurysms. Endovascular and surgical methods are used to treat these aneurysms. Surgical treatment is the gold standard for complete occlusion.

Usefulness of dynamic risk stratification in pediatric patients with differentiated thyroid carcinoma. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Purpose: Recently, the American Thyroid Association (ATA) dynamic risk stratification (DRS) has been verified to be more valuable than the static anatomical staging system for predicting prognosis in patients with differentiated thyroid carcinoma ...

The ubiquitin ligase RNF115 is required for the clearance of damaged lysosomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Upon lysosomal rupture, an E3 ubiquitin ligase RNF115 translocates from the cytosol to the damaged lysosomal membrane. Moreover, RNF115 depletion impairs the clearance of damaged lysosomes, identifying it as a key regulator of lysosomal quality control.

Which patients with intestinal obstruction need surgery? The delta neutrophil index as an early predictive marker [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Purpose: Predicting the need for surgical intervention among patients with intestinal obstruction is challenging. The delta neutrophil index (DNI) has been suggested as a useful marker of immature granulocytes, which indicate an infection or sepsis.
