Learning Surrogate Models of Document Image Quality Metrics for Automated Document Image Processing

open access: yes, 2017
Computation of document image quality metrics often depends upon the availability of a ground truth image corresponding to the document. This limits the applicability of quality metrics in applications such as hyperparameter optimization of image ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Hierarchical Online Air Combat Maneuver Decision Making and Control Based on Surrogate-Assisted Differential Evolution Algorithm

open access: yesDrones
One-to-one within-visual-range air combat of unmanned combat aerial vehicles (UCAVs) requires fast, continuous, and accurate decision-making to achieve air combat victory.

Variable-fidelity optimization of microwave filters using co-kriging and trust regions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
In this paper, a variable-fidelity optimization methodology for simulation-driven design optimization of filters is presented. We exploit electromagnetic (EM) simulations of different accuracy.

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Deep LSTM Surrogates for MEMD: A Noise-Assisted Approach to EEG Intrinsic Mode Function Extraction

open access: yesInformation
In this paper, we propose a deep learning-based surrogate model for Multivariate Empirical Mode Decomposition (MEMD) using Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) networks, aimed at efficiently extracting Intrinsic Mode Functions (IMFs) from ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

A Gumbel-Based Selection Data-Driven Evolutionary Algorithm and Its Application to Chinese Text-Based Cheating Official Accounts Mining

open access: yesAlgorithms
Data-driven evolutionary algorithms (DDEAs) are essential computational intelligent methods for solving expensive optimization problems (EOPs). The management of surrogate models for fitness predictions, particularly the selection and integration of ...

Synthesis of knowledge on the effects of fire and fire surrogates on wildlife in US dry forests [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Summary: Dry forests throughout the United States are fire-dependent ecosystems, and much attention has been given to restoring their ecological function.

Constrained randomization of time series data

open access: yes, 1998
A new method is introduced to create artificial time sequences that fulfil given constraints but are random otherwise. Constraints are usually derived from a measured signal for which surrogate data are to be generated. They are fulfilled by minimizing a
