A Variable-Importance-Aware Universal Kriging Framework for Surrogate-Based Structural Optimization

open access: yesJournal of Applied Science and Engineering
Surrogate modelling is essential for simulation-based engineering optimization when high-fidelity simulations are computationally expensive. This paper presents Fuzzy-Based Weighted Universal Kriging (FBW-UK), a surrogate modelling framework designed to ...

A novel surrogate polytope method for day-ahead virtual power plant scheduling with joint probabilistic constraints

open access: yesElectric Power Systems Research
Virtual Power Plant (VPP) is an emerging concept that can effectively manage a large number of distributed energy resources (DERs). However, the inherent uncertainty of load and renewable generation poses a challenge to reliable VPP power scheduling.

From patient advocacy to patient‐driven research: Building active partnerships beginning at the bench to reach the bedside

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Research is strongest when conducted alongside patients, not just about them. Patient research organizations help integrate patient perspectives into research priorities, study design, and scientific meetings, leading to meaningful patient outcomes and development of relevant therapies.

Genetic dissection of human ABCE1 in yeast reveals separable requirements for ribosome recycling and suppression of aberrant reinitiation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Human ABCE1 cannot functionally replace its yeast ortholog. Yeast–human chimera analysis identified NBD1 as a major interspecies barrier. Genetic screening yielded hABCE1 revertants that rescue yeast viability but fail to suppress aberrant translation reinitiation in the 3′ UTR.

An efficient ply fraction constraint handling method for surrogate-based composite wing structural optimization

open access: yesJournal of Physics: Conference Series
Abstract For composite wing optimization based on surrogate models, there is currently no effective method to handle 10% ply fraction constraints. Traditional methods that fix the ply fraction in each design region rely heavily on design experience and often fail to achieve ideal optimization results.

Design and evaluation of FEBS Education and Training Academy module – Integrating generative artificial intelligence into life‐science education

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Life‐science educators from 14 countries redesigned their own course materials with generative AI in a three‐session, pedagogy‐first FEBS Education and Training Academy workshop built on PICRAT. Among 12 matched respondents, four more reported high confidence in each of five practical domains, and 10 of 13 reported implementing at least one idea ...

Hydrogel platforms for 3D cardiac tissue engineering and fibrotic disease modelling

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Hydrogel‐based cardiac tissue models are advancing our understanding of heart health and disease. By incorporating electrical conductivity, aligned structures, and tunable mechanical properties, these platforms better replicate the complex environment of native heart tissue.

Reliability optimization design method based on multi-level surrogate model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
In this work, a genetic-algorithm-based Kriging model with multi-point addition sequence optimization strategy is addressed to make up for the shortcomings of Kriging model with single point criterion.

Self‐Regulated Learning Meets AI: Reinterpreting Self‐Regulation, Co‐Regulation, and Socially Shared Regulation in Human–AI Interaction

open access: yesNew Directions for Adult and Continuing Education, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Advancing artificial intelligence (AI) has transformed learning and work, yet higher education and professional development programs have not systematically equipped learners for AI‐prevalent environments. This lack of preparation creates uncertainty regarding control, responsibility, trust, and accountability.
