Iron‐Mediated Release of Aged Dissolved Organic Carbon From Waterlogged Peatland Under Warming

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study conducts a five‐year in situ warming experiment in high‐altitude peatlands to examine dissolved organic carbon (DOC) release. The study shows that warming promotes the release of plant‐derived modern DOC in drained peatlands, but amplifies aquatic export of century‐old DOC from waterlogged peatlands via Fe‐mediated DOC mobilization—a ...

GHRHR Deficiency Enhances Retinal Ganglion Cell Survival and Visual Functions in Experimental Glaucoma by Inhibiting Ferroptosis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Glaucoma, a major cause of blindness, involves retinal ganglion cell (RGC) degeneration. This study shows growth hormone‐releasing hormone receptor (GHRHR) deficiency preserves RGC survival and restores vision, unlike activation which only aids survival.

Hydraulic Fracturing Pressure-Relief Technology for Controlling the Surrounding Rock in Deep Dynamic Pressure Roadways

open access: yesApplied Sciences
In the context where the surrounding rock of deep coal mine roadways is in a complex mechanical environment of “three highs and one disturbance”, mining disturbances are prone to cause instability and damage to the roadways, and the severe deformation of the south wing main roadway caused by mining disturbances in the 2404 working face of a certain ...

Magnetoelectric Nanoparticle‐Based Wireless Brain–Computer Interface: Underlying Physics and Projected Technology Pathway

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Magnetoelectric nanoparticles (MENPs) enable fully wireless, minutely invasive neuromodulation, and potentially neural recording, by converting magnetic into electric and, conversely, electric into magnetic fields, respectively, at high spatiotemporal resolution.

Extra Climate Benefits From Afforestation Due to Reduced Forest Fragmentation in China

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Afforestation in China reduced forest fragmentation in 2015, transforming 51.8 M ha of edge forests into interior forests. This enhanced carbon sequestration (1.4±0.2 Pg CO2e, a cooling biogeochemical effect), while reduced albedo (−0.9 Pg CO2e, a warming biophysical effect) partially offset the gain, yielding a net extra climate benefit of ...

Study on static expansive fracturing for pressure relief and rockburst prevention in coal seam boreholes

open access: yesScientific Reports
Addressing the insufficient pressure relief in the deep coal mass and the deterioration of the surrounding rock bearing structure due to increased borehole diameter in conventional borehole pressure relief techniques, a static expansive fracturing method

Efficient Direct Recycling of Spent Batteries: Integrated Lithiation and Delamination

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An integrated process for the delamination and relithiation of spent cathodes, LixNi0.6Co0.2Mn0.2O2 and LixFePO4, under open‐air conditions is proposed. The transition‐metal (Ni) oxidation state in the cathode is reduced by the oxidation of diethylene glycol, facilitating relithiation. Glycol aldehyde formation induces 100% electrode delamination.
