BackgroundClostridioides difficile Infection (CDI) is a healthcare-associated diarrheal disease prevalent worldwide. A common diagnostic algorithm relies on a two-step protocol that employs stool enzyme immunoassays (EIAs) to detect the pathogen, and its

Assessment of Saliva Specimens' Reliability for COVID-19 Surveillance
The aim of the present study is to assess saliva as a reliable specimen for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) detection by real-time reverse transcription-PCR (RT-PCR), especially in community mass screening programs.

Biological specimens for community-based surveillance studies: Method of recruitment matters
Studies requiring the collection of biological specimens are often difficult to perform and costly. We compare face-to-face and telephone interviews to determine which is more effective for return of self-collected rectal swabs from subjects living in ...

Possibility of a life-time extension for wwer-1000 reactor pressure vessels beyond the design period
At present a life-time extension for WWER-1000 reactor pressure vessels is an actual issue in Ukraine. For a decision about the life-time extension it is needed to assess mechanical properties and the critical brittleness temperature TK for the RPV ...

Optimum Diagnostic Assay and Clinical Specimen for Routine Rotavirus Surveillance [PDF]
ABSTRACT Rates of detection of rotavirus were compared by diagnostic assay and specimen type. For bulk stools, rates of detection by reverse transcriptase PCR (RT-PCR) and enzyme immunoassay (EIA) were similar, but 18% of healthy controls tested positive by RT-PCR. Testing of bulk stools by EIA appears to be optimum for rotavirus surveillance.
