Belt and suspenders: Why it pays to protect and cover during carotid stenting

Catheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions, 2020
Key Points Carotid stenting results show equivalence to carotid endarterectomy. Most patients undergoing carotid intervention are asymptomatic. Using embolic protection with a covered mesh stent shows promise in this first large multicenter study.

The Case for Belts and Suspenders: Risk Management Aspects of Cooperative Collection Development

Collection Management, 2004
Librarians have a responsibility to assess as precisely as possible the risks we take in cooperative collection development activity, and to put in place measures that will minimize that risk. As cooperative development programs are planned and designed, they should be supported with instruments that clearly define the nature and duration of the ...

Belt-and-Suspenders as a Biological Design Principle

2008
Recent studies have shown both the pFRG and the preBötC are sufficient to generate respiratory rhythm, and are hypothesized to do so via distinct mechanisms (Onimaru and Homma 2003; Mellen, Janczewski, Bocchiaro and Feldman 2003). The coexistence of mechanistically distinct, functionally matching networks (defined as degeneracy, Edelman and Gally 2001)

Suspenders and a belt: Perimeter and border security in Canada‐us relations

Canadian Foreign Policy Journal, 2006
In the spring of 2005, Canada, the United States, and Mexico negotiated a Security and Prosperity Partnership (SPP), an agreement meant to bolster continental security while preserving a free flow of goods and people across national borders. After the SPP was announced, influential groups in all three countries argued that the new agreement should lead

Modelling of a Vertical Loop Conveyor with Suspended Belt and Distributed Drive

International Review on Modelling and Simulations (IREMOS), 2016
The authors set forth the design of a suspended belt conveyor with a distributed drive and a vertical closed loop path. The numerical scheme for analyzing the dynamics of this conveyor was made. This scheme took into account the drives mechanical characteristics, the design elements inertial properties and the belt longitudinal strain.

Optimal Design of Steel Structure of Conveyor with Suspended Belt

2018
The construction of a conveyor with suspended belt is represented. It consists of three basic design nodes—drive station, linear section, and tensioning station. The mathematical model of optimizing steel structures of the main design nodes is developed.

Belt and Suspenders? The World Heritage Convention's Role in Confronting Climate Change

Review of European Community & International Environmental Law, 2009
In the face of increasing frustration with the tepid, and largely feckless, national and international institutional responses to the growing threat of climate change, many governments, as well as non‐governmental actors, have either initiated or are exploring potential causes of action in judicial and quasi‐judicial fora.

The Fabric of Love: a Semiotic Analysis of the Suspender Belt

2001
This chapter focuses on the evolution of the suspender belt, an artefact which has circumscribed the female body for the last hundred years. Born out of practicality, this article of clothing has come to signify, albeit controversially, the assertiveness of female sexuality.
