Propeller Jet–Induced Suspended-Sediment Concentration
Journal of Hydraulic Engineering, 2016AbstractWhen subjected to a strong swirling jet flow induced by a rotating ship’s propeller, the bed of a waterway may undergo significant changes. These changes will not only cause instability to quay structures and damage the protection work of the beds/banks of rivers and canals, but also resuspend the bed sediment.

Acoustic estimation of suspended sediment concentration
Science in China Series A: Mathematics, 2001In this paper, the acoustic estimation of suspended sediment concentration is discussed and two estimation methods of suspended sediment concentration are presented. The first method is curve fitting method, in which, according to the acoustic backscattering theory we assume that the fitting factor K1 (r) between the concentration M(r) obtained by ...

Measurements of coastal suspended sediment concentrations
Coastal Engineering, 1983Abstract Three of the methods available for measurement of suspended sediment concentration were chosen and tested in natural conditions. The equipment included sand traps, a radioisotopic probe and a long-action sampler (bathometer). The working conditions of the equipment were studied and the reliability of data obtained was analyzed.

On the Suspended Sediment Concentration Profile
Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2012After analyzing the surface-boundary condition of suspended sediment concentration (SSC), Cheng et al.[7] further improved the sediment diffusion coefficient which was proposed by Bose and Dey[6]. Then an improved Rouse law (IRL) was developed. This equation, which has a similar form as Rouse law, not only overcomes the zero concentration at the free ...

Suspended Sediment Concentration Profiles
Applied Mechanics Reviews, 1995An evaluation is given of the methods of modeling concentration profiles of suspended non-cohesive sediments in natural streams and under waves. The bottom boundary condition and the distribution models are treated separately. The merits of the simple concentration boundary condition, which has been favored by practice, are compared to those of the ...

Suspended sediment concentration profiles using conservation laws
Journal of Hydraulic Research, 1992The suspended sediment transport problem in open channels is studied from the conservation laws point-ofview. Beginning with equations describing the conservation of mass and momentum of both sediment and water, equations for suspended sediment concentrations in free surface flow are derived.

Capacitance sensors for measuring suspended sediment concentration
CATENA, 2005Abstract Measurements of suspended sediment concentration are of importance in soil erosion research and soil and water conservation practices and monitoring. A method of measuring sediment concentration with capacitance sensors was advanced in this study.

Suspended sediment concentration distribution using Tsallis entropy
Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications, 2014Abstract Assuming sediment movement in channel flow as steady, Tsallis entropy is employed for deriving the distribution of sediment concentration. This distribution is found to be analogous to the distribution obtained from a random walk model. The sediment concentration distribution parameters are obtained from physical considerations.

Predicting suspended sediment concentration on continental shelves
Marine Geology, 1985Field observations of the near-bottom suspended sediment concentration, current and wave at a depth of 90 m on the Washington Shelf and at a depth of 1.5 m on the coastal Beaufort Sea show that wave-induced oscillatory flow plays a dominant role in resuspending bottom sediment.

Tidal Characteristics of Suspended Sediment Concentrations
Journal of Hydraulic Engineering, 1997Analytical theory is used to describe the tidal constituents generat~d in suspen~ed sediment con centrations of clay, silt, and sand eroded by M 2 and S2 tidal currents. The assocIated model mvolves only the fall velocity W" the vertical dispersion coefficient E (assumed constant), and wa~er depth.D.
