From Fiber Bundles to Architected Membranes: Triply Periodic Minimal Surface Architectures for Biohybrid Artificial Lungs

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Additively manufactured triply periodic minimal surface (TPMS) membranes offer an architecture‐driven alternative to hollow fiber bundles in artificial lungs. Multiphysics simulations and endothelialized prototypes show that the 3D‐printable membrane architecture improves gas exchange, blood flow distribution, and hemocompatibility, enabling ...

Soft Skins With Reversible Thickness Morphing: Materials, Mechanisms, and Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Evolution of electronic skin (e‐skin) technologies toward adaptive, multifunctional soft skins. Phase I highlights early rigid and discrete sensory interfaces. Phase II shows the transition toward flexible, stretchable, and large‐area e‐skin. Phase III captures the emergence of computational e‐skin.

Explainable machine learning model for load-deformation correlation in long-span suspension bridges using XGBoost-SHAP

open access: yesDevelopments in the Built Environment
The deformation of long-span suspension bridges in multiple loads is an important indictor to reflect their operation state. However, the correlation between multiple loads and structural deformation is difficult to quantify.

Resolving Nanoscale Heterogeneities in Lead Halide Perovskites Through Low‐Dose Concurrent 4D‐STEM‐EDX Mapping

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Mixed‐cation lead mixed‐halide perovskites suffer from structural instabilities linked to nanoscale heterogeneity. To probe this non‐destructively, a low‐dose, concurrent 4D‐STEM and EDX methodology has been developed. Examining a (FA0.83Cs0.17)Pb(I0.8Br0.2)3 film revealed a complex mosaic of coexisting crystal structures. Crucially, local deficiencies

Anisotropic Masked Mycobacterium Potentiates Amplified Antitumor Trained Immunity via Spleen Targeting and Myelopoiesis Conversion

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
An engineered Trojan Mycobacterium, developed via a “peeling‐off and masking‐up” strategy, functions as a powerful splenic myelopoiesis converter. This spleen‐targeted nanomedicine induces trained immunity to reprogram immunosuppressive myeloid reservoirs into antitumoral effectors.

Programmable Functional Silicification of DNA Origami Nanostructures

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This work introduces additional functionality into silica‐coated DNA origami nanostructures using non‐standard silica precursors. A fluorescent precursor enables enhanced intracellular tracking, while a disulfide‐containing reagent yields redox‐responsive, degradable silica coatings.

Reconstruction and validation of ground motions across dip-slip faults: an application to response analysis of a long-span suspension bridge

open access: yesScientific Reports
Recent seismic events have unequivocally highlighted the susceptibility of fault-crossing bridges to the synergistic effects of ground surface vibrations on either side of the fault plane and the tectonic dislocations arising from fault-induced surface ...

Flax Composites With Improved Interfacial Strength Through Microbially Induced Mineral Precipitation

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A bio‐inspired biomineralization strategy introduces an additional hierarchy to flax fiber composites. By controlling microbe‐mediated mineral particle deposition through tuned salt concentrations, stress transfer within the natural fiber composite is enhanced.

Earthquake response of suspension bridges

open access: yes, 2007
Suspension bridges represent critical nodes of major transportation systems. Bridge failure during strong earthquakes poses not only a threat of fatalities but causes a substantial interruption of emergency efforts.
