Blood‐based proteomic profiling reveals context‐dependent changes in BCL2‐associated signaling during taxane therapy in breast cancer patients

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Chemotherapy side effects significantly impact cancer survivors' quality of life. Using protein levels in blood samples from breast cancer patients before and after 12 weeks of taxane treatment, we detected treatment‐dependent changes in calcium signaling and aging pathways associated with cancer recurrence.

Dynamic Exergy Analysis for the Thermal Storage Optimization of the Building Envelope

open access: yesEnergies, 2017
As a measure of energy “quality”, exergy is meaningful for comparing the potential for thermal storage. Systems containing the same amount of energy could have considerably different capabilities in matching a demand profile, and exergy measures this ...

Actual energy performance of a zero-carbon neighbourhood [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The evolution towards zero-energy buildings and districts brings along uncertainties about the operational performance, strengths and weaknesses of these technologies, that are often new and unfamiliar to both the designers, owners and users. In Kortrijk,

Derivation and characterization of retinal pigment epithelium from urine‐derived iPSCs

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Age‐related macular degeneration causes vision loss via RPE dysfunction and loss. Traditional iPSC therapies rely on invasive biopsies, limiting scalability. Here, we utilize urine‐derived stem cells as an accessible source to generate u‐iPSCs, successfully differentiated into pigmented RPE. This “Urine‐to‐Retina” platform provides a promising path for

Perspectives of deployment of Large Heat Pumps (LHPs) combined with waste heat recovery and powered by renewable green electricity in fourth-Generation District Heating (4GDH) [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences
The decarbonization of the heating sector is a central component of the European Union's energy and climate strategy, as reinforced by the revised Energy Efficiency Directive (EU) 2023/1791) [1] and the Renewable Energy Directive (RED III) [2].

Building Sustainability : Understanding, Defining and Measuring Building Sustainability

open access: yes, 2021
Quality management (QM) is in large part about managing and sustaining change to achieve a desiredoutcome, improved quality. Integrating sustainable development with QM practices, defining a higherpurpose for the business activities, and applying systems perspective are three out of five identifiedresearch themes of future importance for the field of ...

Molecular dynamics simulations of positively selected codons in FcγRI reveal novel biochemical binding properties

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Evolutionary analysis across 32 placental mammals identified positive selection at residues H148 and W149 in the immune receptor FcγR1. Ancestral reconstruction combined with molecular dynamics simulations reveals how these mutations may influence receptor structure and dynamics, providing insight into the evolution of antibody recognition and immune ...
