Organ‐Specific and Conserved Regulatory Logic Orchestrates Gene Expression in the Embryonic Mesothelium

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Integrated multi‐omic profiling maps the gene‐regulatory landscape of the coelomic mesothelium across heart, lung, and pancreas. A cardiac‐restricted regulatory program is uncovered in which TBX20 activates heart mesothelial (epicardial) cis‐regulatory elements, while MAF emerges as a conserved regulator of mesothelial identity.

Multi‐Enzyme Mimetic Molybdenum Nitride Nanozymes Reshape Subgingival Microenvironment for Synergistic Periodontitis Therapy via ROS Regulation and Microbiome Remodeling

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Periodontitis, a chronic inflammatory disease initiated and sustained by plaque microorganisms and host immune response, remains an intractable oral disease and a leading cause of tooth loss worldwide. Traditional mechanical debridement and adjunctive antibiotic or antiseptic therapy often shows limited efficacy due to the complex anatomical ...

Chitosan-Based Agronanochemicals as a Sustainable Alternative in Crop Protection [PDF]

open access: yesMolecules, 2020
The rise in the World’s food demand in line with the increase of the global population has resulted in calls for more research on the production of sustainable food and sustainable agriculture. A natural biopolymer, chitosan, coupled with nanotechnology could offer a sustainable alternative to the use of conventional agrochemicals towards a safer ...

Direct and Indirect Effects of Essential Oils for Sustainable Crop Protection

open access: yesPlants, 2022
Plant essential oils (EOs) are gaining interest as biopesticides for crop protection. EOs have been recognized as important ingredients of plant protection products including insecticidal, acaricidal, fungicidal, and nematicidal agents. Considering the growing importance of EOs as active ingredients, the domestication and cultivation of Medicinal and ...

Sustainable Crop Protection and Farming

2021
Annually, between 20% and 40% of global crop production is lost due to pests. The sustainable protection of crops has immense relevance for the security of the food supply chain, in a world of growing population and shrinking resources. In the last decades, the increasing awareness of serious drawbacks coming from the use of pesticides stimulated ...

Setting the Stage: Characteristics of Protected Cultivation and Tools for Sustainable Crop Protection

Developments in Plant Pathology, 1999
Attempts to adapt crop production to the environment with protective devices or practices date back to ancient times. Structures for crop production were first used in the early period of the Roman Empire, under Emperor Tiberius Caesar, 14–37 AD. Such structures consisted of mobile beds of cucumber placed outside on favourable days and inside during ...

Sustainable crop protection and the role of digital agriculture

open access: yesAgricultural Systems
We investigate the potential of digital innovations to support the transformation of sustainable crop protection and reduce the risks associated with pesticide use. Digital technologies can contribute to enhancing the efficiency of pesticide use, completely substituting pesticides, and redesigning agricultural systems to reduce pest pressure and ...

Entomopathogenic Soil Microbes for Sustainable Crop Protection

2021
The insect pest nuisances in the agricultural industry are most likely as old as the agriculture itself. Insects are the most ubiquitous and versatile among all living organisms and are responsible to develop successful survival mechanisms as compared with other living fauna that also share the same planet. The main reason for insect’s dominance in the
