Thalamic inputs to dorsomedial striatum are involved in inhibitory control: evidence from the five-choice serial reaction time task in rats [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Rationale Corticostriatal circuits are widely implicated in the top-down control of attention including inhibitory control and behavioural flexibility. However, recent neurophysiological evidence also suggests a role for thalamic inputs to striatum in

Language Proficiency and Sustained Attention in Monolingual and Bilingual Children with and without Language Impairment

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology, 2017
Background: The language profiles of children with language impairment (LI) and bilingual children can show partial, and possibly temporary, overlap. The current study examined the persistence of this overlap over time.

Exploiting metabolic adaptations to overcome dabrafenib treatment resistance in melanoma cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We show that dabrafenib‐resistant melanoma cells undergo mitochondrial remodeling, leading to elevated respiration and ROS production balanced by stronger antioxidant defenses. This altered redox state promotes survival despite mitochondrial damage but renders resistant cells highly vulnerable to ROS‐inducing compounds such as PEITC, highlighting redox

Developing evidence‐based, cost‐effective P4 cancer medicine for driving innovation in prevention, therapeutics, patient care and reducing healthcare inequalities

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The cancer problem is increasing globally with projections up to the year 2050 showing unfavourable outcomes in terms of incidence and cancer‐related deaths. The main challenges are prevention, improved therapeutics resulting in increased cure rates and enhanced health‐related quality of life.

Functional hemispheric asymmetry in sustained attention.

open access: yesThe Japanese journal of psychology, 2001
This study examined the existence of functional hemispheric asymmetry in visual sustained attention in a dual-task setting. In the experiments, a circular arrangement of Gabor patches (GPs) was successively presented in the periphery during a 40-min vigil.

To Hell with you, Charlie : The UAW has a long history of confronting sexual harassment [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
[Excerpt] Possibly no union was better poised to meet the challenge of sexual harassment after Anita Hill\u27s testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee than the United Auto Workers. For half a century the UAW has addressed sexual discrimination on

PARP inhibition and pharmacological ascorbate demonstrate synergy in castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pharmacologic ascorbate (vitamin C) increases ROS, disrupts cellular metabolism, and induces DNA damage in CRPC cells. These effects sensitize tumors to PARP inhibition, producing synergistic growth suppression with olaparib in vitro and significantly delayed tumor progression in vivo. Pyruvate rescue confirms ROS‐dependent activity.

Vocabulary retention, sustained attention, and enjoyment: Using Tick8 method to promote language achievement

open access: yesAustralian Journal of Applied Linguistics
Although language skills have gained unparalleled momentum in language education, there is a paucity of research on one of the most significant subskills, vocabulary.

LDAcoop: Integrating non‐linear population dynamics into the analysis of clonogenic growth in vitro

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Limiting dilution assays (LDAs) quantify clonogenic growth by seeding serial dilutions of cells and scoring wells for colony formation. The fraction of negative wells is plotted against cells seeded and analyzed using the non‐linear modeling of LDAcoop.

Sustained Spatial Attention in Touch: Modality-Specific and Multimodal Mechanisms

open access: yesThe Scientific World Journal, 2011
Sustained attention to a body location results in enhanced processing of tactile stimuli presented at that location compared to another unattended location.
