Mechanically Tunable Bone Scaffolds: In Vivo Hardening of 3D‐Printed Calcium Phosphate/Polycaprolactone Inks

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A 3D bone scaffold with osteogenic properties and capable of hardening in vivo is developed. The scaffold is implanted in a ductile state, and a phase transformation of the ceramic induces the stiffening and strengthening of the scaffold in vivo. Abstract Calcium phosphate 3D printing has revolutionized customized bone grafting.

Suture versus tacker closure of the peritoneum in transabdominal preperitoneal repair of inguinal hernia: A prospective comparative cohort study

open access: yesInternational Journal of Abdominal Wall and Hernia Surgery
BACKGROUND: Laparoscopic transabdominal preperitoneal repair of inguinal hernia (TAPP) is routinely done by general surgeons. (1) One crucial step is peritoneal closure post-mesh placement to prevent contact with the bowel.

Transparent Inorganic–Organic Bilayer Neural Electrode Array and Integration to Miniscope System for In Vivo Calcium Imaging and Electrophysiology

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents the BioCLEAR system, a highly transparent and conductive neural electrode array composed of silver nanowires (AgNWs) and doped PEDOT:PSS, enabling neural recordings with minimal optical artifacts. When integrated with a GRIN lens, this cost‐effective neural implant allows simultaneous electrophysiological recording and GCaMP6‐based ...

Comparison of long-term stability among continuous, two-point, and transconjunctival buried suture methods in double-eyelid surgery: a 4-year retrospective cohort study of 1,500 cases [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery
Background Double-eyelid surgery is a common aesthetic procedure, particularly among East Asian populations. However, long-term comparative data on different buried suture techniques remain limited. This study provides the first comprehensive three-group

Retained intrauterine sutures for 6 years

open access: yesGynecology and Minimally Invasive Therapy, 2020
The most common sutures used for uterine suturing during cesarean section (CS) are vicryl and/or chromic catgut. The sutures' chemistry and polymer morphology alter sutures' performance and absorption.

Fusion Patterns in the Skulls of Modern Archosaurs Reveal That Sutures Are Ambiguous Maturity Indicators for the Dinosauria

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2016
The sutures of the skulls of vertebrates are generally open early in life and slowly close as maturity is attained. The assumption that all vertebrates follow this pattern of progressive sutural closure has been used to assess maturity in the fossil ...

Smart, Bio‐Inspired Polymers and Bio‐Based Molecules Modified by Zwitterionic Motifs to Design Next‐Generation Materials for Medical Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Bio‐based and (semi‐)synthetic zwitterion‐modified novel materials and fully synthetic next‐generation alternatives show the importance of material design for different biomedical applications. The zwitterionic character affects the physiochemical behavior of the material and deepens the understanding of chemical interaction mechanisms within the ...

Morphological study of the skull sutures and their relationships to skull morphology in young camels (Camelus dromedarius)

open access: yesOpen Veterinary Journal, 2022
Objective: The sutures are associated with anatomical and physiological differences in skull camels. There is a deficiency in the information regarding the anatomy of dromedary camels, especially on fibrous joints (sutures) of the camels skull. Aim: The
