Variations on the Baer–Suzuki theorem [PDF]

open access: yesMathematische Zeitschrift, 2014
The Baer--Suzuki theorem says that if $p$ is a prime, $x$ is a $p$-element in a finite group $G$ and $\langle x, x^g \rangle$ is a $p$-group for all $g \in G$, then the normal closure of $x$ in $G$ is a $p$-group. We consider the case where $x^g$ is replaced by $y^g$ for some other $p$-element $y$.

Thermal Efficiency Improvement of a Lean-Boosted Spark Ignition Engine by Multidimensional Simulation with Detailed Chemical Kinetics

open access: yesInternational Journal of Automotive Engineering, 2015
This paper aims to improve thermal efficiency of spark ignition engine by numerical calculation with detailed chemistry. Experimental results from a four-stroke-single-cylinder engine are compared with that of simulations. It is experimentally found that

Effect of ambient pressure on fluorescence intensity of inexpensive inorganic fluorescent tracer for particle image velocimetry of gaseous flows near solid objects

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2020
Flow dynamics near the spark plug gap have become more important to promote more stable lean/dilute combustion in internal combustion engines. One experimental technique for the measurement of instantaneous gaseous flow in an engine cylinder is particle ...

Visualization and quantitative evaluation of eddy current loss in bar-wound type permanent magnet synchronous motor for mild-hybrid vehicles

open access: yesCES Transactions on Electrical Machines and Systems, 2019
This paper describes the conductor eddy current loss that occurs in a permanent magnet type synchronous motor with a distributed winding stator using a rectangular copper wire designed for mild hybrid system applications for small vehicles. Compared with

Synthetic polymers as xeno-free materials for stabilizing basic fibroblast growth factor in human mesenchymal stem cell cultures

open access: yesBiochemistry and Biophysics Reports, 2021
Series of sulfonated polymers were evaluated as additives in cell culture media. Some of the compounds, such as sulfated polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), prevented denaturation and loss of basic fibroblast growth factor during cell culture and enhanced human ...

High lithium-ion conducting NASICON-type Li1+xAlxGeyTi2-x-y(PO4)3 solid electrolyte

open access: yesFrontiers in Energy Research, 2016
A water-stable solid electrolyte is a key material without which aqueous lithium-air batteries could not be operated. In this study, we have examined the electrical conductivity and mechanical properties of a water-stable lithium ion conducting solid ...

Suzuki groups as expanders

open access: yesGroups, Geometry, and Dynamics, 2011
We show that pairs of generators for the family Sz( q ) of Suzuki groups may be selected so that the corresponding Cayley graphs are expanders. By combining this with several deep works of Kassabov, Lubotzky and Nikolov, this establishes that the family of all non-abelian finite simple ...

New Therapeutic Strategy for Amino Acid Medicine: Effects of Dietary Glutamate on Gut and Brain Function

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacological Sciences, 2012
The gustatory and visceral stimulation from food regulates digestion and nutrient utilization, and free glutamate (Glu) release from food is responsible for the umami taste perception that increases food palatability. The results of recent studies reveal
