P – AND SV – WAVES FROM UPHOLE SHOOTING*

Geophysical Prospecting, 1965
AbstractUphole recordings in sediments very often reveal shear waves. With their velocity and that of the P‐waves Poisson's ratio may be determined, this usually has unexpectedly high values.A number of up‐hole shots were recorded with a linear spread of geophones and with constant gain amplifiers.

Image gathers of SV-waves in homogeneous and factorized VTI media

Geophysics, 2004
Abstract Reflection moveout of SV-waves in transversely isotro-pic media with a vertical symmetry axis (VTI media) can provide valuable information about the model parameters and help to overcome the ambiguities in the inversion of P-wave data.

Rapid map and inversion of P-SV waves

Geophysics, 1991
Abstract Multicomponent seismic recordings are currently being analyzed in an attempt to improve conventional P-wave sections and to find and use rock properties associated with shear waves (e.g. Dohr, 1985; Danbom and Dominico, 1986).

Scattering of elastic and SV waves by a rigid elliptic cylindrical inclusion

International Journal of Engineering Science, 1979
Abstract The 2-dimensional problem of scattering of obliquely incident P and SV waves by an infinite rigid elliptic cylinder embedded in an infinite, isotropic and homogeneous elastic medium is solved. Approximate formulas are derived for the displacement field, stress tensor, far-field amplitudes and the scattering cross section when the ...

Another AVO Cross‐plotting for P‐SV Wave

SEG Technical Program Expanded Abstracts 2003, 2003
Based on the P-SV wave reflection coefficient given by Zheng (1992) and Ramos (2001), another cross-plotting for the converted wave AVO analysis is presented in this paper. The analysis of AVO cross-plotting for P-SV wave indicates that P-SV wave has negative AVO slope and its slope is dependent merely on the change of the ratio of compressionaland ...

P-SV wave scattering by coal-seam inhomogeneities

Geophysics, 1985
Abstract The dynamic finite-element method is used to calculate the normal incidence P-SV guided-wave scattering spectra of 124 models of coal-seam obstructions commonly encountered in in-seam seismology. The models are faults of varying throw and dip; thick faults with an associated region of fracturing; dikes of varying width ...

Crustal reflection of planePandSVwaves

Journal of Geophysical Research, 1962
Expressions in terms of layer matrices have been derived for the motion of the free surface when plane harmonic P or SV waves are incident at any given angle at the base of a horizontally layered crust. A computer program has been written to calculate normalized surface displacements as functions of horizontal phase velocity (or angle of incidence) and

A note on the sensitivity of SV wave scattering to surface-breaking cracks

Ultrasonics, 2005
The results presented in this communication show that the conventional configuration adopting a shear vertical wave at 45 degrees of incidence to detect cracks breaking the surface opposite the one on which the inspecting transducer is placed is not optimal when the crack depth is of the order of one wavelength of the inspecting wave or smaller. Angles

The partition of amplitudes for an SV-wave by Zoeppritz's method

1944
Our problem is to find the amplitude ratios under specific boundary conditions. First, let us deduce the relations between the different amplitudes in the usual manner (Macelwane 1.). We are dealing with plane waves in isotropic media and the boundary surface between both media is a plane.

P-SV Wave-Field Connection Technique for Regional Wave Propagation Simulation

Bulletin of the Seismological Society of America, 2005
A boundary element (be) method is developed to calculate the two-dimensional P-SV elastic response for crustal wave guides with irregular topographic features. To simulate long-range propagation of regional waves, a connection technique is proposed to avoid large matrix inversions that become formidable for long-range, high-frequency problems.
