NUMERICAL MODELLING OF SWASH ZONE HYDRODYNAMICS
Coastal Engineering 2002, 2003Abstract : The swash zone is the area of the nearshore that is intermittently covered and uncovered by wave run-up. Since swash hydrodynamics control the evolution of beach morphology, understanding these motions is of paramount importance. Typical studies of swash zone hydrodynamics involve the deployment of several instruments to measure the swash ...

Swash saturation: an assessment of available models
Ocean Dynamics, 2018An extensive previously published (Hughes et al. Mar Geol 355, 88–97, 2014) field data set representing the full range of micro-tidal beach states (reflective, intermediate and dissipative) is used to investigate swash saturation. Two models that predict the behavior of saturated swash are tested: one driven by standing waves and the other driven by ...

Continental Shelf Research, 2006
A broad illustration is given of integral swash zone models as a flexible and upgradable approach for formulating shoreline boundary conditions for wave-averaged circulation models. Integral models represent a framework in which various types of flow parameterizations can be fitted to give ever-improving descriptions of swash zone motions. Examples are

Swash zone boundary conditions for long-wave models
Coastal Engineering, 2005Abstract In this note, a description of swash zone boundary conditions for implementation in wave-resolving and wave-averaging long-wave models is given along with a discussion of the role of such conditions on the modelling of the entire surf zone hydro-morphodynamics.

The Motion Modeling and Simulation of the Swash-Plate Engine
Advanced Materials Research, 2012In order to conduct a comprehensive analysis and optimization improvements of the swash-plate engine, it is necessary to analyze and discuss the motion of the swash-plate completely. Based on the motion model of the piston and the connecting rod of the engine, the motion tendencies were simulated.

Sediment Transport Numerical Modelling in the Swash Zone
Coastal Dynamics 2005, 2006A numerical model of sediment transport in the swash zone has been recently developed. The followed approach relies on the solution of the vertical distribution of suspended sediment concentration and incorporates the horizontal advection of suspended sediment from the bore collapse and local pickup using a Lagrangian computing scheme.

Modelling of sediment movement in the surf and swash zones
Acta Oceanologica Sinica, 2015Under the action of marine currents, non-cohesive sediments evolve by bed-load, by saltation or suspension depending on their granulometry. Several authors have considered that the movement of sediment is bidimensional and modelized the effects of swell by a constant velocitynear the seabed.

Laboratory validation of SWASH longshore current modelling
Coastal Engineering, 2018Abstract In this paper, the ability of the numerical phase resolving model SWASH (Simulating WAves till SHore) to hindcast wave-induced longshore currents is evaluated. Using default settings for all processes modelled, highly accurate results are found for wave heights, mean water levels and longshore currents.

Advances in numerical modelling of swash zone dynamics
Coastal Engineering, 2016We present a comprehensive and critical review of work on the numerical modelling of swash zone processes between 2005 and 2015. A wide range of numerical models has been employed for the study of this region and, hence, only phase-resolving approaches (i.e., depth-averaged and depth-resolving models) are analyzed. The current advances in the modelling

Overtopping at Vagueira sea defence using the SWASH model
