Depth-resolved Modelling of Suspended Sediment in the Surf and Swash Zones

open access: yesProceedings of the 39th IAHR World Congress, 2022
We present a depth-resolving model that is capable of resolving the vertical flow and suspended sediment structures in the surf and in the swash zones. The model uses the RANS equations to simulate hydrodynamics, and includes sediment transport using an advection diffusion approach.

Virtual Prototyping of Axial Piston Machines: Numerical Method and Experimental Validation

open access: yesEnergies, 2019
This article presents a novel methodology to design swash plate type axial piston machines based on computationally based approach. The methodology focuses on the design of the main lubricating interfaces present in a swash plate type unit: the cylinder ...

Occasional essay: upper motor neuron syndrome in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
The diagnosis of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) requires recognition of both lower (LMN) and upper motor neuron (UMN) dysfunction.1 However, classical UMN signs are frequently difficult to identify in ALS.2 LMN involvement is sensitively detected ...

Numerical modelling framework for assessing dune effectiveness against coastal inundation [PDF]

open access: yesNatural Hazards and Earth System Sciences
Coastal inundation threatens both economic assets and human lives, yet accurate flood mapping remains limited by gaps in data availability and model capabilities.

Modeling bed evolution using weakly coupled phase-resolving wave model and wave-averaged sediment transport model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
In this paper, we propose a model for the simulation of the bed evolution dynamics in coastal regions characterized by articulated morphologies.

Swash-flow induced forces on human body standing on a smooth and impermeable slope: A numerical study with experimental validations

open access: yesEngineering Applications of Computational Fluid Mechanics
Swash flow poses a significant hazard to pedestrians standing on the slope of the seawall. Unlike the forces of overtopping flow or open channel flow on the human body, which have been studied before, swash flow has two distinct cycles within one wave ...

Active Pressure Ripple Control in Axial Piston Pumps through High-Frequency Swash Plate Oscillations—A Theoretical Analysis

open access: yesEnergies, 2019
Pressure ripple has always been a major drawback in hydraulic circuits, since it is the main source of the overall noise emitted by the pump. This article presents a theoretical analysis on the active control of the pressure ripple in an axial piston ...

Numerical study on the influence of infiltration on swash hydrodynamics and sediment transport in the swash zone [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Infiltration and exfiltration processes have a significant influence on the hydrodynamics of the swash zone. Such processes need to be taken into account in the modelling of cross-shore sediment transport and the prediction of beach profile evolution ...

Oxide‐Free Titanium Coatings by Wire Arc Spraying in a Silane‐Doped Inert Atmosphere

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A silane‐doped argon atmosphere enables the production of oxide‐free titanium coatings via twin‐wire arc spraying at ambient pressure. This innovative approach eliminates residual oxygen, creating process conditions that prevent oxidation and nitride formation.

Environmental Effects of Volcanic Volatile Fluxes From Subaerial Large Igneous Provinces

open access: yesGeophysical Monograph Series, Page 103-116., 2021

Exploring the links between Large Igneous Provinces and dramatic environmental impact

An emerging consensus suggests that Large Igneous Provinces (LIPs) and Silicic LIPs (SLIPs) are a significant driver of dramatic global environmental and biological changes, including mass extinctions.
