Effects of Material Selection on the Remanufacturability of a Swashplate in an Axial Piston Pump

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Manufacturing and Processing, Volume 7, Issue 3, July 2025.
ABSTRACT A swashplate is a critical component in an axial piston pump for motion transformation that undergoes cyclic loading. Traditionally, swashplates are not designed to have multiple lives of operation. According to industry experts, a remanufacturability analysis of swashplates suggests that the scrap rate is high.

Prediction of Slipper Pressure Distribution and Leakage Behaviour in Axial Piston Pumps Using ANN and MGGP

open access: yesMathematical Problems in Engineering, Volume 2019, Issue 1, 2019., 2019
The pressure distribution (PD) and leakage between the slipper and swash plate in an axial piston pump (APP) have a considerable impact on the pump efficiency, affecting aspects such as the load bearing and wear performance of the slipper. Herein, multigene genetic programming (MGGP) and artificial neural network (ANN) machine learning methods (MLMs ...

Advances and Prospects in Fault Diagnosis of Aircraft Hydraulic Piston Pumps

open access: yesShock and Vibration, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
The hydraulic system is a crucial system for aircraft. As the core power component of the hydraulic system, the hydraulic pump has a complex structure and operates in a harsh environment. Therefore, fault diagnosis of the hydraulic pump is of great significance and highly challenging.

Vibration and Performance Analyses Using Individual Blade Pitch Controls for Lift‐Offset Rotors

open access: yesInternational Journal of Aerospace Engineering, Volume 2019, Issue 1, 2019., 2019
This work attempts to reduce the hub vibratory loads of a lift‐offset rotor using IBC (individual blade pitch control) in high‐speed forward flight. As a lift‐offset rotor for the present study, the rigid coaxial rotor of a XH‐59A compound helicopter is considered and CAMRAD II is used to predict the hub vibration and rotor performance.

Active noise control by means of high frequency injection in electric motors

open access: yesIET Electric Power Applications, Volume 18, Issue 8, Page 897-911, August 2024.
Aiming to improve the acoustics surrounding motor drives, this paper proposes the application of High Frequency Injection (HFI), with the aim of creating acoustic noise that is in anti‐phase relation to an unwanted noise. The injected High Frequency (HF) voltage produces torque pulsations and vibrations within the motor. This vibratory energy initiates

Electrically Controlled Rotor Blade Vortex Interaction Airloads and Noise Analysis Using Viscous Vortex Particle Method

open access: yesShock and Vibration, Volume 2019, Issue 1, 2019., 2019
An electrically controlled rotor (ECR), also called a swashplateless rotor, replaces a swashplate with a trailing‐edge flap system to implement primary rotor control. To investigate the aerodynamic characteristics of an ECR in blade‐vortex interaction (BVI) condition, an analysis model based on the viscous vortex particle method, ECR blade pitch ...

Numerical investigation of pre-ignition intake–vortex dynamics and air–fuel mixing in a novel coaxial swashplate engine

open access: yesJournal of Physics: Conference Series
Abstract To clarify the pre-ignition mixture-preparation mechanism in a novel coaxial swashplate engine, a three-dimensional CFD model was established to resolve the intake-induced vortex evolution and air-fuel mixing process.

Maximizing wind farm power output with the helix approach: Experimental validation and wake analysis using tomographic particle image velocimetry

open access: yesWind Energy, Volume 27, Issue 5, Page 463-482, May 2024.
Abstract Wind farm control can play a key role in reducing the negative impact of wakes on wind turbine power production. The helix approach is a recent innovation in the field of wind farm control, which employs individual blade pitch control to induce a helical velocity profile in a wind turbine wake. This forced meandering of the wake has turned out

Electric machine sizing consideration for ePumps in mobile hydraulics

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, Volume 12, Issue 3, Page 793-809, March 2024.
This research examines the energy efficiency and design of various ePump architectures for off‐road vehicles, with a special focus on those integrating permanent magnet synchronous machines and axial piston machines. The study reveals that variable displacement ePumps can cut electrical machine size by up to 40% under certain conditions, while the ...
