Response of ZrC to swift heavy ion irradiation

Journal of Applied Physics, 2023
Zirconium carbide (ZrC) is commonly used for energy sector research, as well as a surrogate for the proposed advanced nuclear fuel candidate uranium carbide. This study investigates structural modifications to nanocrystalline and microcrystalline ZrC resulting from dense electronic excitations induced by swift heavy ion exposure.

Swift heavy ion irradiation of polystyrene

Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section B: Beam Interactions with Materials and Atoms, 1996
Abstract We have studied by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy the chemical modifications induced by swift heavy ions in polystyrene. The overall destruction yield becomes very significant at high electronic stopping power ( d E d x ) e and the radiation sensitivity of this aromatic polymer merges typical values of equivalent ...

Swift heavy ion irradiation of diamond powder

Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section B: Beam Interactions with Materials and Atoms, 2012
Abstract Sub-micrometer sized diamond powder was irradiated with 1.4 GeV uranium ions at fluences of 5 × 1012, 1 × 1013 and 8 × 1013 ions/cm2. The resulting structure of the irradiated diamond powder was investigated by synchrotron X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman scattering and transmission electron microscopy.

Swift-heavy-ion irradiation on Al62Cu25.5Fe12.5 quasicrystals

Journal of Non-Crystalline Solids, 2004
Abstract The effect of swift-heavy-ion irradiation on a very stable and well-studied Al 62 Cu 25.5 Fe 12.5 icosahedral quasicrystalline system is discussed here. The experiments are performed in the pure electronic excitation regime, where various ranges of energy (1.2 to ∼2.5 keV/A) are systematically deposited in to the system, causing electronic ...

Swift heavy ion irradiation in ZnO films

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2019
We discussed the morphological, structural, optical and electrical properties of unirradiated and swift heavy ions (SHI) irradiated ZnO films.X-ray diffraction revealed the hexagonal wurtzite structure corresponding to c-axis (002) of all films. The roughnesses and grain sizes of the irradiated ZnO film increases with increasing SHI fluencies.
