Irradiation induced elongation of Fe nanoparticles embedded in silica films

open access: yesInternational Journal of Smart and Nano Materials, 2020
Irradiation with swift heavy ions causes the deformation of Ferric nanoparticles in direction of the ion beam. Fe nanoparticles with mean diameter of about 20 nm were prepared by gas flow sputtering and subsequently confined within silica films.

Research progress on biomarkers of traumatic brain injury

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
Traumatic brain injury: From primary insult to secondary neuroinflammation and degeneration. Abstract Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a common disorder of the nervous system and has become a leading cause of death and disability worldwide, imposing a substantial burden on patients and their social circles. Its main symptoms include dyskinesia, language

Synergistic Advanced Oxidation and Physicochemical Treatment Strategies for Antibiotic Removal and Resistance Mitigation in Water

open access: yesAsia-Pacific Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The presence of antibiotics in water not only causes environmental pollution but also increases the growth of antibiotic‐resistant bacterial genes, which pose serious threats to human beings and other water residents. Large numbers of people are reportedly affected by the resistant bacterial genes, as many broad‐spectrum antibiotics are not ...

Annealing of defects in Fe after MeV Heavy ion irradiation

open access: yes, 1998
We report study of recovery dynamics, followed by in-situ resistivity measurement after 100 MeV oxygen ion irradiation, in cold rolled Fe at 300K. Scaling behavior with microstructural density and temperature of sample have been used to establish stress ...

Engineering Biochar‐Derived Functional Materials for High‐Performance Supercapacitors: Design Principles, Mechanisms, and Scalable Strategies

open access: yesCarbon Energy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Biochar has emerged as a useful and adaptable source of carbon for supercapacitor electrodes. Its value comes from the way biomass chemistry, thermal conversion, and activation conditions shape the resulting pore network, surface groups, and degree of carbon ordering.

Ion Tracks and Nanohillocks Created in Natural Zirconia Irradiated with Swift Heavy Ions. [PDF]

open access: yesMaterials (Basel)
Natural monoclinic zirconia (baddeleyite) was irradiated with 340 MeV Au ions, and the irradiation-induced nanostructures (i.e., ion tracks and nanohillocks) were observed using transmission electron microscopy. The diameter of the nanohillocks was approximately 10 nm, which was similar to the maximum molten region size calculated using the analytical ...

Radiolysis of ammonia-containing ices by energetic, heavy and highly charged ions inside dense astrophysical environments [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Deeply inside dense molecular clouds and protostellar disks, the interstellar ices are protected from stellar energetic UV photons. However, X-rays and energetic cosmic rays can penetrate inside these regions triggering chemical reactions, molecular ...

Microstructural response of InGaN to swift heavy ion irradiation [PDF]

open access: yesNuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section B: Beam Interactions with Materials and Atoms, 2016
Abstract A monocrystalline In0.18Ga0.82N film of ∼275 nm in thickness grown on a GaN/Al2O3 substrate was irradiated with 290 MeV 238U32+ ions to a fluence of 1.2 × 1012 cm−2 at room temperature. The irradiated sample was characterized using helium ion microscopy (HIM), Rutherford backscattering spectrometry under ion-channeling conditions (RBS/C ...

On the threshold for ion track formation in CaF2

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2017
There is an ongoing debate regarding the mechanism of swift heavy ion (SHI) track formation in CaF _2 . The objective of this study is to shed light on this important topic using a range of complementary experimental techniques. Evidence of the threshold
