Failure of multitube sperm swim-up for sex preselection
To use double-label fluorescence in situ hybridization to evaluate a modified swim-up procedure that is purported to be effective for preconceptual sex selection.Controlled, blinded study.University hospital laboratories.Donor males reporting for routine semen analysis.Percentages of X- and Y-bearing spermatozoa in neat semen and in two swim-up ...

ULTRASTRUCTURAL AND DNA FRAGMENTATION ANALYSES IN SWIM-UP SELECTED HUMAN SPERM
Seventeen sperm samples were evaluated by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) before and after swim-up separation. DNA-fragmentation was tested by terminal d-UTP nick end labeling (TUNEL) in unselected and selected semen samples, and the results were analyzed in relation to sperm ultrastructural characteristics detected by TEM.

Simultaneous swim-up/swim-down of sperm in assisted reproduction procedures
Journal of Assisted Reproduction and Genetics, 1993High-quality motile human spermatozoa were obtained following treatment of semen by simultaneous swim-up into medium and swim-down into an isotonic 40% Percoll solution. This procedure was significantly better than the swim-up method and comparable to discontinuous Percoll gradient centrifugation. Recovery rates of motile sperm were 35% for swim-up, 65%

Influence of swim-up time on the ratio of X- and Y-bearing spermatozoa
European Journal of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Biology, 2006The objective was to examine the separation of X- and Y-bearing spermatozoa in a modified swim-up procedure using fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH), and to find out the influence of swim-up time on the ratio of X- and Y-bearing spermatozoa.Prospective study.Reproductive testing laboratory in a university hospital.Normal spermatozoa samples were ...

Factors affecting sperm yield during swim-up
Journal of Assisted Reproduction and Genetics, 1993The migration of sperm (expressed as the percentage of the total motile cells in the ejaculate aliquot) from seminal plasma into overlying medium (swim-up) was increased with time, temperature, and increasing the surface area of contact between the two phases by increasing the angle of tube inclination. The proportion of sperm migrating into the medium ...
