Host Factor Rab4b Promotes Japanese Encephalitis Virus Replication

open access: yesMicroorganisms
Although the Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) infects various cell types, its receptor molecules are still not clearly understood. In our laboratory’s prior research, Rab4b was identified as a potential host factor that facilitates JEV infection in PK15

Analysis of the Navigation of Magnetic Microrobots through Cerebral Bifurcations for Targeted Drug Delivery

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
The motion of magnetic microrobots through cerebral bifurcations depends on various parameters such as the microrobots size, the blood velocity, and the imposed magnetic field gradients, among others. This work presents an in‐depth analysis of the effects of these parameters and equations predicting the required magnetic gradients based on the ...

Proinflammatory cytokine changes in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid cells isolated from pigs infected solely with porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus or co-infected with swine influenza virus

open access: yesJournal of Veterinary Research, 2019
The study evaluated the patterns of local innate immune response in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) cells of pigs infected with porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) alone or co-infected with swine influenza virus (SIV).

Efficacy of the Porcine circovirus 2 (PCV2) vaccination under field conditions

open access: yesVeterinaria Italiana, 2019
The objective of this study was to determine the effect of the porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) vaccination on the levels of viremia, the number of viremic-positive pigs, and production performance [i.e.

Long‐term immunosuppression of rabbits through oral tacrolimus administration

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
Oral gavage of rabbits with 1.5 mg/kg/d of tacrolimus allows for an efficient long‐term (1 year) immunosuppression with minimal side effects and no loss of animals. lmmunosuppressed rabbits are a convenient animal model to investigate the long‐term efficacy of human allografts in vivo.

Real-time quantitative PCR for detection and identification of Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae serotype 2

open access: yesJournal of Veterinary Research, 2016
Introduction: Porcine pleuropneumonia inflicts important economic losses on most commercial herds. Detection of subclinical or chronic infection in animals still remains a challenge, as isolation and identification of A.

Achieving scalable expansion of therapeutic porcine hepatocytes in vivo through serial transplantation

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
This represents the first serial hepatocyte transplantation pig model designed to investigate the massive hepatocyte proliferation in vivo. Leveraging this novel model, we achieved serial hepatocyte transplantation and regeneration in a porcine model, where the transplanted hepatocytes effectively repopulated the livers of two‐generation model pigs in ...

Effects of newly developed synbiotic and commercial probiotic products on the haematological indices, serum cytokines, acute phase proteins concentration, and serum immunoglobulins amount in sows and growing pigs – a pilot study

open access: yesJournal of Veterinary Research, 2018
The aim of the study was to determine the effects of supplementation of sows’ and growing pigs’ diets with three newly developed synbiotic and two extant commercial probiotic products on selected immune parameters under field conditions.

Swine vesicular disease: pathways of infection [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Hygiene, 1980
SUMMARYThe pathways of infection in swine vesicular disease have been studied by (i) an estimation of the amounts of virus required to produce infection by different artificial inoculation procedures; (ii) the distribution and amounts of virus in various tissues of pigs killed at intervals after contact infection; (iii) an investigation of the ...

Hydrogel Composites and Their Potential Application in Animal Production and Health

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
With emerging concerns about environmental contamination and safe animal production practices for increased animal welfare, research has increased in search of alternatives to promote sustainable production. The application of naturally derived hydrogels presents a great opportunity for exploration and application for animal production purposes ...
