EFFECT OF SECONDARY AIR ON THE FLOW FIELD INSIDE A GAS TURBINE COMBUSTOR [PDF]

open access: yesPort Said Engineering Research Journal, 2012
In the present work, the air flow pattern inside a gas turbine combustor is studied. The effect of primary air swirl, secondary to primary air ratio and secondary air direction on the flow field is investigated.

Passive flow control study in a convoluted intake using Stereo Particle Image Velocimetry [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The ability of vortex generators (VG) to reduce the unsteady distortion at the exit plane of an S-duct (AIP) is investigated. The 3 components of the velocity at the AIP were measured using a Stereo Particle Velocimetry system with high spatial ...

Stochastic Chaos in a Turbulent Swirling Flow [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2017
We report the experimental evidence of the existence of a random attractor in a fully developed turbulent swirling flow. By defining a global observable which tracks the asymmetry in the flux of angular momentum imparted to the flow, we can first reconstruct the associated turbulent attractor and then follow its route towards chaos.

Swirl flow in annular geometry with varying cross-section

open access: yesEngineering Applications of Computational Fluid Mechanics, 2022
Swirling gas flow is an important topic of research that helps in the design of rockets, atomizers, and gas turbine combustors. In the present work, swirl flow inside annular geometries with constant and varying cross-sectional areas are examined using ...

Bubble elimination by swirl flow.

open access: yesHydraulics & Pneumatics, 1988
The performance of a newly developed bubble elimination system is analyzed. The system consists of a circular body for a swirled flow supplied tangentially, equiped with a throttle valve downward and a valve for discharging bubbles upward.A strong swirl superimposed on an averaged laminar flow during the initial state is found to decay exponentially ...

Numerical study on the influence of pre-swirl angle on internal flow characteristics of centrifugal pumps

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2022
The effect of inlet pre-swirl on the performance of a centrifugal pump is studied by numerical simulation. The governing equations are Navier–Stokes equations and the shear stress transport k–ω turbulence model.

Production of metal powders by gas atomization using swirl and non-swirl nozzles

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2022
Gas atomization, in which high-pressure gas jet impinges on molten metal stream from the melt tube to atomize it, is a popular method of producing fine metal powders. In this study, we focused on a swirling flow of the injection gas as a factor affecting

The Influence of Swirl Brakes on the Rotordynamic Forces Generated by Discharge-to-Suction Leakage Flows in Centrifugal Pumps [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
Increasing interest has been give to swirl brakes as a means of reducing destabilizing rotordynamic forces due to leakage flows in new high speed rocket turbopumps.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.
