Impact of pilot swirling combination on the flow and emission characteristics of staged lean direct injection combustors

open access: yesEnergy Reports, 2022
This paper considers a concentric staged triple swirler lean direct injection (LDI) combustor and conducts numerical analysis to investigate the impact of inner and outer swirl flow of the pilot stage on the spray combustion characteristics and NOx ...

Peroxidasin enables melanoma immune escape by inhibiting natural killer cell cytotoxicity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Peroxidasin (PXDN) is secreted by melanoma cells and binds the NK cell receptor NKG2D, thereby suppressing NK cell activation and cytotoxicity. PXDN depletion restores NKG2D signaling and enables effective NK cell–mediated melanoma killing. These findings identify PXDN as a previously unrecognized immune evasion factor and a potential target to improve

Numerical investigation and characteristic analysis of the swirl meter with different swirlers

open access: yesMeasurement + Control, 2020
The swirl meter is one of the gas flow meters used in the industry. Its advantages are as follows: a strong signal level, easy maintenance, and stable performance. Hence, it has become widely accepted for natural gas metering.

SmallTalk: a novel small‐sized fusion tag for peptide expression and purification

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The SmallTalk fusion tag allows for the efficient expression and purification of soluble recombinant proteins or peptides in Escherichia coli. Testing with SmallTalk‐GFP confirmed that the proteins were soluble and folded correctly, while SmallTalk‐Bin1b maintained its antimicrobial activity against various bacterial isolates. This streamlined workflow

Autophagosome marker, LC3, is released extracellularly via several distinct pathways

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study establishes a novel HiBiT‐tagging system for ultrasensitive detection of LC3, revealing multiple pathways for its extracellular secretion. It demonstrates that LC3 is released via both autophagy‐dependent and ‐independent mechanisms, including a novel route for nonlipidated LC3‐I.

Deep Learning–Assisted Differentiation of Four Peripheral Neuropathies Using Corneal Confocal Microscopy

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Peripheral neuropathies contribute to patient disability but may be diagnosed late or missed altogether due to late referral, limitation of current diagnostic methods and lack of specialized testing facilities. To address this clinical gap, we developed NeuropathAI, an interpretable deep learning–based multiclass classification ...

Relationships between local topology of vortical flow and pressure minimum feature derived from flow kinematics in isotropic homogeneous turbulence

open access: yesJournal of Fluid Science and Technology, 2016
Relationships between local flow topology (geometry) of vortical flow and pressure minimum feature derived from its flow kinematics are investigated in isotropic homogeneous turbulence, in a new topological point of view with respect to vortical flow ...

Getting drowned in a swirl: Deformable bead-spring model microswimmers in external flow fields. [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 2015
Deformability is a central feature of many types of microswimmers, e.g., for artificially generated self-propelled droplets. Here, we analyze deformable bead-spring microswimmers in an externally imposed solvent flow field as simple theoretical model ...

Prediction of Myasthenia Gravis Worsening: A Machine Learning Algorithm Using Wearables and Patient‐Reported Measures

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Myasthenia gravis (MG) is a rare disorder characterized by fluctuating muscle weakness with potential life‐threatening crises. Timely interventions may be delayed by limited access to care and fragmented documentation. Our objective was to develop predictive algorithms for MG deterioration using multimodal telemedicine data ...

Experimental study of rotating direction for dual-axial swirlers on the flow field and combustion characteristics of aero-engine combustor

open access: yesCase Studies in Thermal Engineering
The flow field structure for aero-engine combustor is one of the most important factors for combustion performance. To investigate how the rotating direction of dual-axial swirlers affects the flow field and combustion characteristics, particle image ...
