Losses in soft-switched and hard-switched voltage inverters

2003 IEEE International Symposium on Industrial Electronics ( Cat. No.03TH8692), 2004
This paper introduces an adequate loss model, based on the experimental results, which can be used to estimate the losses in hard-switched and soft-switched inverters. As an example and considering the use of IGBTs, it compares the losses produced by hard-switched, auxiliary resonant commutated pole (ARCP) and quasi-square-wave (QSW) inverters for ...

Prediction of switching loss variations by averaged switch modeling

APEC 2000. Fifteenth Annual IEEE Applied Power Electronics Conference and Exposition (Cat. No.00CH37058), 2002
An analytical averaged equivalent circuit model is derived revealing how dominant loss mechanisms vary with power converter operating point in a PWM converter. The model is based on the operational characteristics of power diodes and IGBTs. Laboratory experiments support the derived model and confirm that IGBT current tailing and diode reverse-recovery

Switching loss reduction of MOSFET using switching assist circuit

2015 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology (ICIT), 2015
This paper describes a new high-efficiency and high-speed switching method of a MOSFET using a switching assist circuit fed by the gate drive power supply. By applying the proposed circuit to a chopper and an inverter, a turn-off time of the MOSFET can be effectively reduced, which allows a higher-frequency operation and reduction of the turn-on loss ...

A Hybrid PWM Strategy for Switching Loss Reduction in Three-Level Inverters

IEEE Journal of Emerging and Selected Topics in Power Electronics
The advanced bus-clamping pulsewidth modulation (ABCPWM) sequences are well known to reduce line current total harmonic distortion (THD) in a three-level neutral point-clamped (3LNPC) inverter.

Investigation on Switching Energy Losses in Reversely Switched Dynistor

IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics, 2014
This paper presents theoretical and experimental results on the energy loss characteristics of reversely switched dynistor (RSD) under high-current conditions. Theoretical analysis was performed based on a 1-D modified model by taking account into the carrier-carrier scattering effect and auger recombination effect during the conducting process.

Soft switching bidirectional DC-DC converter to reduce switching losses

2011 International Conference on Electrical Machines and Systems, 2011
In this paper, soft switching bidirectional DC-DC converter is proposed. The proposed topology is consisted of two auxiliary switch, two resonant capacitors and one resonant inductor compared to conventional bidirectional DC-DC converter. Through employing ZVS(Zero Voltage Switching) and ZCS(Zero Current Switching) methods, switching loss occurs from ...
