Energy loss in spark gap switches
Physics of Plasmas, 2014The paper reports on numerical study of the energy loss in spark gap switches. The operation of the switches is analyzed using the Braginsky model which allows calculation of the time dependence of the spark channel resistance. The Braginsky equation is solved simultaneously with generator circuit equations for different load types.

Estimation of switched reluctance motor losses
IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 1992A method of predicting switched reluctance motor (SRM) losses under operating conditions inclusive of saturation is described. General expressions for the flux frequencies in different parts of the core are derived. Fourier analysis is applied to decompose the flux waveforms into their constituent sinusoidal components, which are then used in ...

Energy loss reduction by critical switches
IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 1993A systematic method to derive an optimal switching plan to achieve energy loss minimization for short term and long term operation of distribution systems is presented. The short term optimal switching criterion is developed by binary integer programming with a branch and bound technique.

Low loss 4x4 optical switching network
Electronics and Communications in Japan (Part I: Communications), 1980AbstractA 4 × 4 optical switching network was realized which has a low insertion loss and good switching repeatability. Practical optical switching networks are in great demand for optical fiber communication and information processing systems of higher grade and more versatility.

PESC `92 Record. 23rd Annual IEEE Power Electronics Specialists Conference, 2003
A low-loss soft-switching CSI topology, consisting of two parallel switches with a midpoint connected capacitor, is proposed. The structure accomplishes zero voltage switching during turn-off without any additional snubber circuit. It is well suited for high power applications requiring the use of two parallel switches. An analysis and design procedure

Single-stage single-switch input-current-shaping technique with reduced switching loss
IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics, 1999In this paper, a new single-stage, single-switch input-current-shaping (S/sup 4/ICS) technique which features substantially reduced turn-on switching loss of the switch in a S/sup 4/ICS flyback topology is described. In the proposed technique, the turn-on switching loss due to the discharging of the output capacitance of the switch is reduced by ...
