The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1991
A voice operated switch for use in noisy environments is described. The switch includes independent amplifiers for separately amplifying frequency band limited speech and noise signals. The independently amplified speech and noise signals are rectified, applied through time constant circuits, and are applied to a differential amplifier.

A nanophotonic switch: transient dynamics and switching operation
Postconference Digest Quantum Electronics and Laser Science, 2003. QELS., 2003The operation of a nanophotonic switch was investigated theoretically. An increase in the exciton population with fast vibrations was obtained in the state-filling condition. We also found that the population decay time can be shortened by changing the state-filling time.

Switching operations of three-waveguide optical switches
IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Quantum Electronics, 2000Three-waveguide optical switches are analyzed by means of the coupled mode theory. Assuming that three approximate waveguides of an optical switch are identical and equally spaced, we examine the switching behavior for cases where an incident beam is launched into (1) an outer waveguide and into (2) a center waveguide.

Order Independent Switching Operations in Radially Operated Networks
2007 14th IEEE International Conference on Electronics, Circuits and Systems, 2007Radially operated networks may be switched to change configuration in order to improve performance. Changing one configuration into another involves finding and sequencing ON/OFF switching steps. This is in general a complex task as the switching step possibilities must be dynamically investigated in order neither to create meshes nor to lose ...

Double switch operation in a young infant
Cardiology in the Young, 2004We performed a combined Senning and arterial switch operation on a 2-month-old patient with congenitally corrected transposition, Ebstein's malformation producing severe tricuspid regurgitation, ventricular septal defect, pulmonary hypertension, and congestive heart failure. The tricuspid regurgitation was improved.

Selective timing for the arterial switch operation
The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 2004To determine outcomes for the arterial switch operation individualized according to the underlying anatomy and clinical status.A retrospective review of a consecutive series of infants less than 90 days of age who underwent the arterial switch operation at a single institution. From July 1993-April 2001, 117 infants underwent an arterial switch ...

Follow-up of Arterial Switch Operation
The Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeon, 1991This report describes the experience of the Leiden University Hospital with the arterial switch operation for transposition of the great arteries, with and without ventricular septal defect, and for the Taussig-Bing-anomaly. The longest follow-up was 13 years and 9 months.

Communications switching—From operators to photonics
Proceedings of the IEEE, 1987Very soon after Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone, it became obvious that it would be impractical to extend wires from every telephone to all other telephones. To conserve copper and dollars, wires had to converge on central points where individual telephone-to-telephone connections would be made.

Chapter 11 discussed five aspects of digital switching architecture: terminal interfaces, switching network considerations, service circuits, control architectures, and maintenance diagnostics and administration. In this chapter, four operational switching systems have been selected to illustrate how the foregoing functions have been integrated into ...
