Optical neuron using polarisation switching in a 1550nm-VCSEL [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We report a new approach to mimic basic functionalities of a neuron using a 1550 nm Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser (VCSEL) which is based on the polarisation switching (PS) that can be induced in these devices when subject to polarised optical ...

Reduction of Oxide Inclusions During the High‐Frequency Welding of Steel via a Nonthermal Ar/H2 Plasma Jet

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
High‐frequency (HF) welding of steel is limited by oxide inclusions that degrade weld quality. This study demonstrates, for the first time, the integration of a nonthermal Ar/H2 dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma jet into HF welding. Local plasma treatment provides effective shielding and in‐situ oxide reduction, resulting in markedly fewer and ...

The Adaptive Priority Queue with Elimination and Combining

open access: yes, 2014
Priority queues are fundamental abstract data structures, often used to manage limited resources in parallel programming. Several proposed parallel priority queue implementations are based on skiplists, harnessing the potential for parallelism of the add(

Influence of an Argon/Silane Atmosphere on the Temperature of a Thermal Plasma

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The influence of a silane‐doped argon atmosphere on the chemical composition and temperature of a thermal nontransferring argon plasma is investigated using optical emission spectroscopy. As a result of the high amount of free electrons resulting from the stepwise ionization and dissociation of the silane molecule, even a silane addition of 0.01 vol ...

Handbook of Establishing and Maintaining Oxygen‐Free Atmospheres

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a practical framework for creating oxygen‐free atmospheres at ambient pressure using silane‐doped inert gases. The results show that ultra‐low oxygen levels and strongly reduced water content can be achieved through controlled silane dosing, drying systems, and sensor monitoring.

From DSpace to Islandora: Why and How

open access: yesCode4Lib Journal, 2023
The article summarizes the experience of switching from DSpace to Islandora. It briefly gives the historical background and reasons for switching to Islandora. It then compares the basic features of the two systems: installation, updates, operations, and

Reconfigurable Electro-optic Logic Circuits Using Microring Resonator-Based Optical Switch Array

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2016
In this paper, we propose a reconfigurable electro-optic logic circuit, which can perform any combinatorial logic operations using a microring resonator (MRR)-based optical switching array.

Setup‐Optimized Sequencing in Job Shops: Modeling Workstation Productivity and Lateness Behavior

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Setup‐optimized sequencing in job‐shop production creates a trade‐off between productivity improvement and schedule reliability. A WIP‐explicit modeling framework links sequencing‐induced productivity gains and lateness dispersion through the production operating curve.
