ABSTRACT Greenland halibut (Reinhardtius hippoglossoides) is a deep‐water flatfish which lives at temperatures of 1°C–4°C and produces large eggs (> 3 mm). The combination of low temperatures and large eggs has resulted in an unusual ovary development cycle, with vitellogenesis taking more than 1 year.

ABSTRACT Bycatch remains a critical challenge in global fisheries, even when using selective gears such as longlines. In the French longline fishery targeting Atlantic bluefin tuna (Thunnus thynnus) in the Gulf of Lion, the common pelagic stingray (Pteroplatytrygon violacea) is the primary bycatch species.

Knowledge of post-larval swordfish (Xiphias gladius) ecology in the world’s oceans is incomplete as they are rarely found in ichthyoplankton samplings or commercial catches and individuals are difficult to observe in the marine ecosystem.

Age and growth of swordfish (Xiphias gladius) caught by the Hawaii-based pelagic longline fishery [PDF]
We verified the age and growth of swordfish (Xiphias gla-dius) by comparing ages determined from annuli in fin ray sections with daily growth increments in otoliths.

Management Implications of Mesopelagic Forage Fisheries for Bigeye Tuna Stocks
ABSTRACT Many large marine predators forage on mesopelagic fish stocks, including commercially valuable tunas. The mesopelagic is under increasing interest for commercial exploitation, given its large biomass with potential to supply fishmeal for aquaculture feed or fish oil.

Estimated Dietary Intake of Trace Metals from Swordfish Consumption: A Human Health Problem
Trace element (Hg, Pb, Cd, Zn, Cu, Ni, and Cr) occurrence was determined in the muscle tissue of swordfish collected in the Mediterranean Sea to assess whether the intakes complied with the recommended levels for essential metals and permissible levels ...

Migrations and habitat use of the smooth hammerhead shark (Sphyrna zygaena) in the Atlantic Ocean [PDF]
The smooth hammerhead shark, Sphyrna zygaena, is a cosmopolitan semipelagic shark captured as bycatch in pelagic oceanic fisheries, especially pelagic longlines targeting swordfish and/or tunas.

Abstract Understanding fish behaviour and activity patterns is essential for interpreting their ecology and the processes that shape population dynamics, yet such information remains limited for wild fishes because observing individuals in situ is challenging.

During the last 50 years, the increase in the efforts of the longline fleet in the Eastern Pacific Ocean (EPO) resulted in an increase in the capture of the swordfish Xiphias gladius.

A Dyson-Schwinger study of the four-gluon vertex [PDF]
We present a self-consistent calculation of the four-gluon vertex of Landau gauge Yang--Mills theory from a truncated Dyson--Schwinger equation. The equation contains the leading diagrams in the ultraviolet and is solved using as the only input results ...
