Evolutionary, Functional and Mechanistic Characterisation of Microbial Terpene Synthase‐Like Genes From Springtails

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, EarlyView.
A genome analysis revealed the presence of many bacterial‐type terpene synthases in springtails. Four enzymes from Sinella curviseta were functionally characterised, resulting in the isolation of several compounds including sinellene ether, the first diterpene ether identified from a terpene synthase that represents a novel skeleton.

Enhancing the Secretion Systems: Genetic Engineering of Super Bioagents for Effective Plant Disease Control

open access: yesBiotechnology and Bioengineering, EarlyView.
Genetic engineering (GE) overcomes BCA limits, enabling robust, scalable crop protection. “Super Bioagents” (SBs) use optimized SSs to enhance bioactive molecule delivery. Optimizing SSs enhance precise, sustainable effector deployment for stable disease suppression. SBs use microbiome‐informed design for scalable, next‐gen sustainable crop protection.

Potential of Indonesian Marine Endophytic Fungi as Extracellular Enzymes Producers

open access: yesJournal of Fungi
Marine endophytic fungi inhabit the internal tissues of seaweed, seagrass, and mangroves without causing harm. These fungi are known to produce extracellular enzymes, including proteases and cellulases, which play crucial roles in various biological ...

From pathogen to “living drug factory” innovative strategies and clinical translation of bacteria as programmable intelligent vectors for cancer therapy

open access: yesBMEMat, EarlyView.
Engineered bacteria serve as smart, living therapeutics that target tumors, deliver drugs, and remodel immunosuppressive microenvironments. This review highlights their potential to potentiate immunotherapy, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy, offering a promising paradigm for precise and synergistic cancer treatment. Abstract The dynamic interplay between

Natural microbiota confer life-long protection against obesity via an early-life, immune-mediated effect on brown adipocytes

open access: yesGut Microbes
Obesity, a major risk factor for metabolic disease, has increased in industrialized nations alongside a reduction in gut microbiota diversity. Reconstituting laboratory mice with complex, natural microbiota and commensals from wild mice resulted in ...

Ciliates as Symbionts

open access: yes, 2022
Although many ciliates are free-living, more than 140 families of ciliates (Alveolata, Ciliophora) include symbiotic species of animals. Symbiosis, defined as an interaction between two species, is analyzed in this chapter to show a wide diversity of symbiotic systems in ciliates (epibiosis, commensalism, mutualism, and parasitism), providing some data

High‐Sugar Diet and Intestinal Diseases: A Shared Microbiota–Barrier–Immunity–Metabolism Axis in Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Food Allergy, and Colorectal Cancer

open access: yesiNew Medicine, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The global incidence of intestinal diseases—including food allergy, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), and colorectal cancer (CRC)—continues to escalate in parallel with the expansion of the “Western diet,” within which the high‐sugar diet (HSD) has emerged as a pivotal yet under‐recognized dietary driver.
