Program Behavior at the Symbolic Level
Computer, 1976No application programmer writes machine-language programs–i.e., strings of ones and zeroes. That primitive pursuit has long been reserved for those few who create the very first modules of a software system for new hardware. Instead, programmers make use of a wide spectrum of symbolic programming languages, ranging from assembly code to high-level ...

Representing and scheduling looping behavior symbolically
Proceedings 2000 International Conference on Computer Design, 2002This paper presents a very general, exact technique for scheduling looping data-flow graphs. In contrast to the conventional technique using loop iteration variables and integer linear programming, the new technique uses implicit symbolic automata techniques to represent the problem instance.

Emotional intelligence for linking symbolic behaviors
Proceedings 2002 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation (Cat. No.02CH37292), 2003A six-layered architecture for behavior control, consciousness-based architecture (CBA), is developed to link symbolic behaviors to low-level behaviors such as reflex action, detour and pursuit. This architecture makes possible behaviors categorized in "use of media" in parallel with running low-level behaviors.

Symbolic behavior in Neanderthals
Science, 2019Anthropology A new discovery provides rare evidence of symbolic behavior in Neanderthal communities and extends the record further geographically and temporally across Europe. Rodriguez-Hidalgo et al. analyzed recently unearthed Spanish imperial eagle phalanges, which were found along the Iberian Peninsula, and inferred that Neanderthal communities ...

Sexual behavior as symbolic interaction
The Journal of Sex Research, 1976Abstract The aim of this paper is to systematically apply a sociological perspective, specifically that orientation known as symbolic interactionism, to the area of human sexuality. Our task is both conceptual and empirical. At the conceptual level, we have attempted to interpret and view sexual behavior through the concepts and assumptions provided by

Symbolic Behavior: Consumption and Socialization
SSRN Electronic Journal, 2001Objects of consumption and their meanings diverge amongst societies according to the social context. Thus, the meanings expressed by consumers reflect their cultural point of view. The consumption behavior can be explained by the need of expressing these meanings, by the ownership of products that communicate to society how the individual is self ...

Matching-to-Sample as a Model of Symbolic Behavior for Bio-behavioral Investigations
Reviews in the Neurosciences, 2008This paper discusses the use of matching-to-sample as a procedure to investigate symbolic behavior acquisition when studying the evolution of language. It is argued that generalized identity and stimulus classes formed after learning arbitrary interconnected conditional stimulus relationships may be the result of basic pre-symbolic processes.

Optimizing symbolic execution for malware behavior classification
Computers & Security, 2020Abstract Increasingly software correctness, reliability, and security is being analyzed using tools that combine various formal and heuristic approaches. Often such analysis becomes expensive in terms of time and at the cost of high quality results.
