Heuristics for a Matrix Symmetrization Problem [PDF]
We consider the following problem: given a square, nonsymmetric, $(0,1)$-matrix, find a permutation of its columns that yields a zero-free diagonal and maximizes the symmetry. The problem is known to be NP-hard. We propose a fast iterative-improvement based heuristic and evaluate the performance of the heuristic on a large set of matrices.

From Low Symmetry to High Dissymmetry: Chiral Plasmonic Films of Binary and Nanobipyramid Assemblies
This work develops highly dissymmetric chiral plasmonic thin films by helically assembling gold nano bipyramids within a liquid‐crystal template. Engineering of the chiroptical response is achieved by varying particle size and geometry, as well as preparing binary assemblies.

On minimizing the largest eigenvalue of a symmetric matrix
This paper concerns the (nondifferentiable) optimization problem (1) \(\lambda^* = \inf_{x \in \mathbb{R}^ m} \lambda_ 1 (x)\), where \(\lambda_ 1 (x)\) are the largest eigenvalues of \(A(x) = A_ 0 + \sum^ m_{j=1} x_ jA_ j\) and the \(A_ j\) are symmetric. It gives a sufficient condition on \(x\) to satisfy \(\lambda_ 1 (x) - \varepsilon \leq \lambda^*

A spin group (SG)‐based mechanism is proposed to realize a single pair of Weyl points. PT‐symmetric nodal lines (NLs) persist under T‐breaking, protected by the combination of SG and P symmetry. When considering spin‐orbit coupling, the SG‐protected NL will split into Weyl points, which will also induce anomalous transport phenomena arising from ...

An approximate solution for a system with a symmetric matrix
This paper deals with a discrete approximation for the solution of the boundary value problem for an ordinary differential equation (unusually formulated). Using methods of the Numerov's type a system of equations is obtained. The matrix of this large system of equations is reformulated as the product of two bounded matrices for the purpose of ...

A note on the growth factor in Gaussian elimination for generalized Higham matrices
The Higham matrix is a complex symmetric matrix A=B+iC, where both B and C are real, symmetric and positive definite and $\mathrm{i}=\sqrt{-1}$ is the imaginary unit. For any Higham matrix A, Ikramov et al.

Breaking the Capacity Limit for WO3 Anode‐Based Li‐Ion Batteries Using Photo‐Assisted Charging
This image illustrates a photo‐assisted rechargeable lithium‐ion battery. (a) shows the battery structure, where light enhances electron‐hole generation in the anode, boosting ion flow. (b) compares discharging performance, revealing over 60% higher capacity under light compared to dark conditions, showcasing the benefit of light‐assisted energy ...

Matlab Applications for Skew-Symmetric Matrices and Integral Curves in Lorentzian Spaces
In [8], the authors obtained the non-zero solutions of the equation A(x)=0, in Lorentzian space where A is a skew-symmetric matrix corresponding to the linear map A and got normal forms of the skew-symmetric matrix A, depending on the causal characters ...
