A Case of Critical Digit Ischemia in a Patient With Suspected Seronegative Scleroderma Diagnosed via Nailfold Capillaroscopy

open access: yesCase Reports in Rheumatology, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Systemic sclerosis (scleroderma) can manifest with advanced symptoms of ischemic vasculopathy, including digital ulcer development. These ulcerations can be disabling and detrimental to a patient’s quality of life, so prompt diagnosis, differentiation from other vascular etiologies, and treatment are important to help salvage this tissue.

Cardiovascular Safety of VIAN‐c4551, an Antiangiogenic Peptide Derived From Vasoinhibin

open access: yesDrug Development Research, Volume 86, Issue 7, November 2025.
ABSTRACT Vasoinhibin is a potent antiangiogenic protein that blocks the activation of endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) in response to vascular endothelial growth factor, bradykinin, and acetylcholine (ACh). In this regard, VIAN‐c4551, a new synthetic vasoinhibin analog, has therapeutic potential for targeting angiogenesis in oncology and ...

Association between muscle sympathetic nerve activity and red blood cell distribution width in adults

open access: yesPhysiological Reports, Volume 13, Issue 19, October 2025.
Abstract Measures obtained from the full blood count have been shown to vary around a set point, are stable over years, and provide an indication of disease risk and mortality. In this study, we examined the association between sympathetic nerve activity and components of the full blood count.

Intrinsic innervation and dopaminergic markers after experimental denervation in rat thymus

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Histochemistry, 2010
The aim of this study was to examine rat thymus innervation using denervation techniques and to explore the related micro-anatomical localization of dopamine, D1, D2 receptors and dopamine membrane transporter (DAT). In the thymus subcapsular region, the

Deciphering the skeletal interoceptive circuitry to control bone homeostasis

open access: yesBMEMat, Volume 3, Issue 3, September 2025.
This review introduces the skeletal interoceptive circuitry, covering the ascending signals from bone tissues to the brain (sensors), the central neural circuits that integrate this information and dispatch commands (CPU), and the descending pathways that regulate bone homeostasis (effectors).

Neural recordings can differentiate between spontaneously metastasizing melanomas and melanomas with low metastatic potential.

open access: yesPLoS ONE
Multiple studies report that melanomas are innervated tumors with sensory and sympathetic fibers where these neural fibers play crucial functional roles in tumor growth and metastasis with branch specificity.

Macro‐ and Microanatomy of the Sympathetic Innervation of the Spleen in Rodents

open access: yesJournal of Comparative Neurology, Volume 533, Issue 9, September 2025.
The multi‐compartmental organization of spleen‐projecting neurons—from the celiac ganglia to the spleen—complicates anatomical identification. We provide a dissection guide, characterize their microstructure, and use neuronal tracing to validate the celiac ganglia–spleen connection while demonstrating that these neurons can be transduced by a viral ...

The sympathetic nervous system drives hyperinflammatory responses to Clostridioides difficile infection

open access: yesCell Reports Medicine
Summary: Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI) is a leading cause of hospital-acquired infections in the United States, known for triggering severe disease by hyperactivation of the host response.

QUANTITATIVE ASSESSMENT OF THE EFFECTIVENESS OF CHEMICAL LUMBAR SYMPATHECTOMY

open access: yesBritish Journal of Anaesthesia, 1985
Twenty-one chemical sympathectomies were assessed in this study by taking infra-red thermograms of the feet before and after the procedure. Patients with relatively high perfusion pressures were shown to have the best response, while those with a low perfusion pressure had little or no increase in mean temperature in the foot.

Chemoreflex function in pulmonary diseases – A review

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, Volume 603, Issue 16, Page 4461-4482, 15 August 2025.
Abstract figure legend Chemoreflex activation in respiratory diseases and COVID‐19 populations. Abstract The chemoreflex is a vital protective reflex that is crucial in restoring normal blood gas and pH levels. The carotid bodies are peripheral chemoreceptors activated by hypoxia (primarily), hypercapnia, acidaemia, temperature, lactate and potassium ...
