Measurement of sympathetic nerve activity in the unanesthetized rat

open access: yes, 1989
A new system was developed in our laboratory to continuously monitor intra-arterial pressure, heart rate, and sympathetic nerve activity in unanesthetized rats. The animals were prepared 24 h before the start of the experiments.

Excess portal venous long-chain fatty acids induce syndrome X via HPA axis and sympathetic activation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
We tested the hypothesis that excessive portal venous supply of long-chain fatty acids to the liver contributes to the development of insulin resistance via activation of the hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal axis (HPA axis) and sympathetic system.

Mice lacking protease nexin-1 show delayed structural and functional recovery after sciatic nerve crush [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Multiple molecular mechanisms influence nerve regeneration. Because serine proteases were shown to affect peripheral nerve regeneration, we performed nerve crush experiments to study synapse reinnervation in adult mice lacking the serpin protease nexin-1

Blood pressure effects of SGLT2 inhibitors and GLP‐1 receptor agonists: Mechanisms, trial evidence and Real‐world data

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
SGLT2 inhibitors and GLP‐1 receptor agonists modestly lower blood pressure across diverse patient populations, including those without diabetes. These effects appear largely independent of glycaemic control and offer additive value in high‐risk patients with overlapping comorbidities.

Central Mechanisms of Abnormal Sympathoexcitation in Chronic Heart Failure

open access: yesCardiology Research and Practice, 2012
It has been recognized that the sympathetic nervous system is abnormally activated in chronic heart failure, and leads to further worsening chronic heart failure. In the treatment of chronic heart failure many clinical studies have already suggested that

Regional Differences in Sympathetic Nerve Activity Are Generated by Multiple Arterial Baroreflex Loops Arranged in Parallel

open access: yes
In this review, by evaluating the responses during freezing, rapid eye movement (REM) sleep, and treadmill exercise, we discuss how multiple baroreflex loops arranged in parallel act on different organs to modulate sympathetic nerve activity (SNA) in a ...

Sensory disturbances in complex regional pain syndrome: Clinical observations, autonomic interactions, and possible mechanisms [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
To review mechanisms that might contribute to sensory disturbances and sympathetically-maintained pain in complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS). CRPS is associated with a range of sensory and autonomic abnormalities.

Spinal interneurons with sympathetic nerve-related activity

open access: yes, 1984
This study tested the hypothesis that at least some brain stem and reflex control of sympathetic outflow is mediated over pathways containing spinal interneurons.

Overfeeding, Autonomic Regulation and Metabolic Consequences [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
The autonomic nervous system plays an important role in the regulation of body processes in health and disease. Overfeeding and obesity (a disproportional increase of the fat mass of the body) are often accompanied by alterations in both sympathetic and ...

Paediatric development of radiopharmaceutical imaging agents and radioligand therapeutics

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Abstract This review focuses on the development of radiopharmaceutical imaging agents and radioligand therapeutics for paediatric use. Nuclear medicine plays an important role in the diagnosis and treatment of various childhood conditions, including cancers, infections and brain disorders.
